Shaky Knees Music Festival is an annual music festival that takes place in Atlanta, Georgia. The festival was founded in 2013 by Tim Sweetwood in order to bring a proper indie music festival to the city of Atlanta, which already hosts festivals such as Sweetwater 420 Fest and Music Midtown.

Those who know Webster Hall solely as the roomy host to ascendant indie-acts and faded legends alike will be surprised to hear that the faux-marble labyrinth often doubles as a real-life night club featuring cover-charged theme parties and big-name DJ sets. The four-story, 40,000 square foot space includes a main stage, lined with balcony space on either end, as well as a few amenities and extras: an underground coat check, a large back-area bar (plus a few rarely-trafficked side bars,) bathroom attendants, the 600-capacity Marlin Room, and the Studio at Webster Hall, a smaller venue-within-a-venue with an intimate atmosphere. Attendees are usually too entranced by the spinning stage lights and gothic chandeliers to notice the multi-culti hieroglyphic hode-podge lining the venue’s wall; the upstairs unisex bathroom – complete with checkered, hop-style design and blackboard walls and chalk sticks on string to encourage scrawled musings from stall occupants – is harder to ignore. Most importantly, the house sound system’s crisp low end refuses to be ignored, probably thanks to a recent $1 million upgrade

If you visited the Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana a couple years ago, you would’ve been met by cover bands, one-hit wonders or closed doors. It had its moments, of course, but those moments were rare thanks to a lengthy closure and lackluster booking. Enter Jon Reiser, former partner and booker for Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa. Reiser purchased the venue and made several significant changes: booked popular acts, upgraded the sound system, added a smaller venue-in-a-venue called the Constellation Room. The Observatory now hosts popular acts such as Method Man , GWAR, Tiesto, Waka Flocka Flame and many, many more. That also includes residencies from local acts. Selling out shows is now a habit for this place. Most of all, it provides a valuable service to the whole county by bringing in acts we could usually only see by driving to Los Angeles. Oh, and it even—gasp!—makes Angelenos cross the Orange Curtain for a show.

The 9:30 Club, originally named Nightclub 9:30, also known simply as the 9:30, is a nightclub and concert venue in Washington, D.C., which was originally housed in the ground floor rear room of the Atlantic Building at 930 F Street NW, in the city's downtown area, where it opened on May 31, 1980, with a legal standing capacity of only 199 patrons. In 1996, due to its increasing prominence, the club was moved to a roomier space, its current location at 815 V Street NW, where it anchors the eastern end of the U Street Corridor.

As a special feature, the club, with capacity for up to 1,200 people, has a wheeled stage mounted on rails, which can be moved back and forth as needed. This way, the place can feel as packed with 500 people in attendance as it would during a sold-out, full capacity show.

The 9:30 Club's name was derived from its original street address, as well as the original opening time of 9:30 p.m. Early advertising on D.C.'s WHFS radio featured the slogan "9:30 – a Place and Time!"

Alexandra Palace is a Grade II listed entertainment and sports venue in London, situated between Wood Green and Muswell Hill in the London Borough of Haringey. It is built on the site of Tottenham Wood and the later Tottenham Wood Farm.

The Anthem is a music venue and auditorium under construction in the Southwest Waterfront neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The Anthem is part of District Wharf, a comprehensive redevelopment of the Southwest Waterfront area.

The 57,000-square-foot venue, which cost $60 million (USD), will have a movable stage and backdrop that will allow capacity to vary from 2,500 to 6,000. Balconies will be closer to the stage than most venues, to offer the best views. The venue will be operated by I.M.P., which manages Washington's 9:30 Club and Lincoln Theatre as well as Maryland's Merriweather Post Pavilion.

The Ascend Amphitheater is an open-air event venue located on the Cumberland River in Nashville, Tennessee. It is set inside the Metro Riverfront Park. The amphitheater seats 2,300 in fixed seating, and 4,500 on the lawn, with a total capacity of 6,800.

In 1998 it was converted into a music venue. It has a capacity of 575 people. There are no seats as the entire venue has standing areas only.

The venue’s stages have played host to a list of artists which reads like a dessert menu of alternative music royalty.  Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden and Fugazi once graced the same stages that are today occupied by Odesza, Death Grips, Future, In This Moment, Little Dragon, Taking Back Sunday and countless other amazingly popular and influential bands.

Its live music mostly consists of alternative music styles, such as indie rock, metal, punk rock, rockabilly, and electronic, ranging from local acts to ones internationally known. The Masquerade's three principal interior stages are named after the destinations of the afterlife: Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell — though they are now all on the same level with separate entrances. At the mill, Heaven was upstairs above Hell at the right (west) side of the building, with Purgatory as the bar area downstairs to the left, all accessed from a central entryway behind the box office with a stairway to Heaven.

The Metro stage is a lot of things to a lot of people—a big break, a headliner’s dream, and even a wedding altar—but no matter what transpires under the nearly hundred-year-old roof, one thing remains the sole focus—the music.

Joe Shanahan began his journey in artistic propriety as a Columbia College graduate with a keen ear for the underground music shaking Chicago’s musical core. Shanahan spent his post-collegiate years trekking to New York and London to experience the happenings redefining the global arts community. He returned with an “act local, think global” business philosophy and an urge to fill the void in his home city’s art scene. Shanahan began throwing fringe gatherings in his loft, but soon the crowds, and his ambition, grew too large for the space.

It seems appropriate that a venue that’s blazed its own trail began with a band doing just the same. R.E.M., the off-kilter Georgians shaking garages and dorm rooms across the country, landed at Metro for a last-minute slot in Metro’s “big room.” With a five-dollar ticket and an enthusiastic crowd, Shanahan was left with enough cash to treat the staff to a round of pizza at the end of the night. He called Metro’s pilot show a resounding victory.

While the benchmark for success has changed over the years at Metro, the ideology has remained stalwart. Cross platforms; break boundaries; and pool talent from the local, regional and national levels. Local H took the stage with Nirvana’s groundbreaking set still settling into the stage’s grooves. Elliott Smith’s Chicago swan song rang through the building in the same month as Sleater-Kinney’s fiery feminist punk.

Metro isn’t in the business of simply buying talent, though—breeding the acts gracing the stage is engrained in the venue’s artistic credo. Year in and year out for over three decades, the Metro roster has maintained a delicate balance between national headliners and local up-and-comers. With every musical movement that has swept across Chicago—and the country—Metro has booked the key players on all platforms. In its heyday, such local and national show-biz luminaries as Eddie Cantor and Orson Welles regularly looked over the footlights from the National’s stage.

Upon its reopening in 2008, The National has seen another chapter of its history unfold. O2 Forum Kentish Town is a major live entertainment venue in London and one of the UK’s best preserved, original cinematic theatres.

It was originally built as an Art Deco cinema in 1934 by Herbert Yapp, a cinema magnate who also owned the Forum cinemas in Ealing and Fulham and the architect was J. Stanley Beard with interior design managed by his partner W.R. Bennett.

The venue launched with a grand opening ceremony of music and films, conducted by the star Sydney Howard, on 17 December 1934 and was taken over in March 1935 by Associated British Cinemas (ABC) along with the other Forum cinemas and changed renamed the ABC until 1963, 28 years later.

The ABC cinema closed in 1970 to become a bingo hall and then a dance hall and in the 1980s the venue's name and usage was changed to the Town & Country Club. It became one of the must-play venues on the indie circuit for up-and-coming bands as well as established acts. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, bands that played included The Velvet Underground and Pixies to Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine and The Wedding Present.

In recent years, O2 Forum Kentish Town has seen some legendary performers take to the stage including, Dave Grohl and Sound City players, Jack White, Rihanna, Bobby Womack, Justin Timberlake and KISS.

The Orange Peel is one of the Southeast’s preeminent concert venues. The club features state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment rarely found in a club of its size. The smoke-free facility has a beautiful interior, creating a fabulous setting for enjoying the premier musicians who perform here.

The building on the corner of Biltmore and Hilliard Avenue holds many fond memories for the people of Asheville. From 1950 to 1962, Skateland Rollerdome was the place to be on Saturday night and hosted many birthday parties for children of Asheville. The downtown skating rink proved to be the perfect place for kids to have fun while moms and dads shopped in the department stores that once dominated the downtown landscape. Later, the building housed a series of R & B and soul clubs. Coincidentally, most of those clubs had colors in their names: jade, emerald, and orange. The Orange Peel was the best known of these establishments and had a reputation throughout Western North Carolina as the hottest nightclub around. Artists such as The Commodores and The Bar-Kays appeared on the carpeted, three-tiered stage, and when live music was not available, recorded disco and funk blared from the elevated DJ booth, which featured DJs from one of the few black owned radio stations in the country, WBMU-FM. The Orange Peel was the last club to occupy the location before it became vacant for many years. After a stint as an auto parts warehouse, The Orange Peel was reborn, thanks to Julian Price’s downtown redevelopment company, Public Interest Projects.

In its first three years as a music club, The Orange Peel was recognized as one of the best live music venues in the nation. Featured and highlighted in USA Today, Travel and Leisure Magazine, Southern Living Magazine, Turner South Cable Network, Rolling Stone Magazine, Self Magazine, Cosmopolitan, and most recently, in the May 2011 issue of GQ. The club is known for presenting up and coming new talent as well as showcasing legendary performers.

In 2008, Rolling Stone Magazine named the Orange Peel one of the top 5 rock clubs in the nation.

The Orange Peel underwent an expansion in late 2009 to bring its capacity to 1,100 standing, as well as to add a smoking deck on the north side of the venue and a new 75-person private club on the lower level, called PULP. PULP features a funky retro atmosphere with rotating local art displays on its walls, a full bar, and a high definition TV showing a live feed of shows as they happen upstairs on the main stage. It is open during all show nights, and also for solo and acoustic performances during dark nights upstairs.

Acts appearing on stage over the years at the Orange Peel have included Bob Dylan, Flaming Lips, Jack White, Blondie, Sonic Youth, Neon Trees, Arcade Fire, Joan Jett, fun., Ms. Lauryn Hill, Ice Cube, The Killers, Macklemore, Cyndi Lauper, Post Malone, Modest Mouse, the Beastie Boys, and many more. The Smashing Pumpkins did a nine-show run in June and July 2007.

By hosting not only concerts, but also benefits, galas, birthday parties, weddings, and even memorial services, 101 Biltmore Avenue has once again become a well-known address in Asheville. Ironically, The Orange Peel of the 1970’s billed itself as “The Original Orange Peel,” perhaps imagining a future for “The New and Improved Orange Peel“.

Rams Head Live! is an indoor music venue, club, and bar located in Baltimore, Maryland. Located in the Power Plant Live! section of downtown Baltimore, the venue is surrounded by several other bars and clubs. Rams Head Live! opened on December 15, 2004. The venue features 26,000 square feet (2,400 square meters) of floor space with five bars and three different viewing levels of the stage.

Saturn (music venue) and Satellite (coffee and cocktail bar) is a facility located in Avondale just east of downtown Birmingham. It is owned by Alabama native and musician Brian Teasley. Domestique Coffee provides high quality and sustainably-grown coffees served in traditional and nontraditional formats in the Satellite. The Stone Pony, one of the world’s best known music venues, opened its doors on Feb. 8, 1974 in a building which formerly housed a popular restaurant called Mrs. Jay’s. Founders John P. “Jack” Roig and Robert “Butch” Pielka first met while working in a club on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights. Roig purchased the building which then housed an abandoned disco called The Magic Touch, and enlisted the managerial skills and construction talents of friend and former co-worker Pielka as general manager and minority partner.

For many years, Pony staff and early patrons believed the club’s name came to Pielka in a dream. But in late December of 2014, Roig revealed that he was out with a young woman in October of 1973, and she was wearing a shirt with small horses all over the front of it. Jack says the shirt inspired the name.

Neither Butch nor Jack could not foresee that their venture would become an integral and irreplaceable part of Asbury Park history. The Stone Pony was about to take a prominent place in an evolving music scene which began at clubs like the Upstage, the Student Prince, and the Sunshine-In.

The Corona Theatre, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada is located at 2490 Notre-Dame Street West in the Little Burgundy neighbourhood of the borough of Le Sud-Ouest. It is one of several vintage movie theatres in Montreal whose façade and interior have retained their original appearance.

Originally called The Town Casino between the 1940s and 60s, the venue looms large in Buffalo’s history. In the midst of her heyday, the Main Street club was the Queen city’s finest restaurant and night spot. She was home to shuffling showgirls and tough guys playing cards in the basement (Al Capone among them). The room also hosted a myriad of musical legends such as Frank Sinatra, Nat ¨King¨ Cole, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Les Paul. Anyone who was anyone played the Town Casino.

However, following these storied years the building changed ownership several times. First she was home base for the Studio Arena, then became UB’s Pfeiffer Theater, and in the early 21st Century was remodeled into Sphere Entertainment Complex.

Finally, in 2005, noted Buffalo promoters Artie Kwitchoff and Donny Kutzbach stepped in to restore the old girl to her former glory. Their vision was to bring the venue back to life as the Queen City’s premier concert venue. This included further renovation of the space to ensure the stage was not only magnificent for performers, but was also the best place for fans to see a show. The pièce de résistance was christening the club the Town Ballroom, which called to mind the legendary grandeur of the Town Casino.

The Wiltern Theatre originally seated 2,344. Subsequent modifications in 2002 removed the 1,200 permanent seats on the ground floor to allow for a variety of configurations from a standing room only crowd of 2,300 to a more intimate seated arrangement holding 1850 people. The loge and mezzanine levels in the balcony continue to offer fixed theater seats. The venue remains one of the largest theaters in Los Angeles.

Bully is the solo project of guitarist and singer Alicia Bognanno. The American rock band formed in 2013 in Nashville. They signed to Columbia Records label Startime International and released their first album Feels Like in 2015, then moved to Sub Pop to release Losing in 2017. Their third album Sugaregg was released on August 21, 2020. What initially began as a three-piece band is now a solo project with accompanying members.
