The 9:30 Club, originally named Nightclub 9:30, also known simply as the 9:30, is a nightclub and concert venue in Washington, D.C., which was originally housed in the ground floor rear room of the Atlantic Building at 930 F Street NW, in the city's downtown area, where it opened on May 31, 1980, with a legal standing capacity of only 199 patrons. In 1996, due to its increasing prominence, the club was moved to a roomier space, its current location at 815 V Street NW, where it anchors the eastern end of the U Street Corridor.

As a special feature, the club, with capacity for up to 1,200 people, has a wheeled stage mounted on rails, which can be moved back and forth as needed. This way, the place can feel as packed with 500 people in attendance as it would during a sold-out, full capacity show.

The 9:30 Club's name was derived from its original street address, as well as the original opening time of 9:30 p.m. Early advertising on D.C.'s WHFS radio featured the slogan "9:30 – a Place and Time!"

Drake is making History. He's teamed up with Live Nation to launch a venue called History that will open in Toronto later this year.

The venue will have a capacity of 2,500 and will host around 200 shows and events per year. It's in the Beaches neighbourhood in Toronto's east end at 1663 Queen Street East. By Drake's arena-sized standards, this is a "smaller room."

He said in a statement, "Some of my most memorable shows were playing smaller rooms like History. I wanted to take those memories and what I learned to create an incredible experience for both the artists and the fans."

History has been in the works for more than three years. Construction is scheduled to wrap up later this summer. An announcement states, "History includes a convertible general admission area and reserved seating configurations for all types of events — from concerts, live entertainment and galas to community programs and events.

The venue is operated by The Bowery Presents, a group stemming from Bowery Ballroom. It has a capacity of 650 people and has shows on most nights of the week.

Another historic venue, this one in the center of the University Ave. business district in North Park, the Observatory was built in the 1920s and still features much of the classic art deco decor that has adorned the walls since it first opened. It was purchased in 2014, and its name was changed from the North Park Theatre, but the character of the classic theater remains. For starters, it's beautiful, and while it was a venue for opera and dramatic theater in its past life, its acoustics make it a surprisingly strong place to catch a touring rock or pop group. Even better, it's a spacious venue, supporting 1,100 concertgoers at a time with plenty of breathing room for everyone. The calendar at Observatory North Park is always full, whether it's showcasing alt-rock a-listers like Tame Impala or filmmaker and camp icon John Waters.

 Madison has a new live entertainment venue: The Sylvee, a three-story theater in the Capitol East District that its creators say will help define Madison as a destination for touring artists.

The Americana band Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats will christen the space tonight with a sold-out show at the new theater — a cavernous, industrial-chic 45,000 square-foot theater space with a capacity for 2,500 people, nestled on the lower floors of the new Gebhardt Building at 25 S. Livingston St.

Frank Productions, the 54-year-old Madison-based music promotion company, owns and will operate the space. From its buffed concrete standing-only ground floor to the sightlines from its balconies, it’s a theater that company leaders say has been engineered with concertgoers in mind.

“This has been built up from the ground to be a concert venue,” said Scott Leslie, the co-president of Frank Productions’ local promotional arm FPC Live. “This isn’t a movie theater or an old warehouse.”

The contrast Leslie painted is a nod to the older venues that have historically hosted Madison music events. The Majestic Theatre, the Orpheum Theater and the Barrymore Theatre were moviehouses or vaudeville theaters before they became concert venues.

 Madison has a new live entertainment venue: The Sylvee, a three-story theater in the Capitol East District that its creators say will help define Madison as a destination for touring artists.The Americana band Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats will christen the space tonight with a sold-out show at the new theater — a cavernous, industrial-chic 45,000 square-foot theater space with a capacity for 2,500 people, nestled on the lower floors of the new Gebhardt Building at 25 S. Livingston St.

Terminal 5 is a New York City music venue in Hell's Kitchen, located at 610 West 56th Street, west of 11th Avenue. It has a multi-level event site with five distinct room environments. It has a capacity of 3,000 people. Alcoholic beverages are served during events along with light snacks.

Originally called The Town Casino between the 1940s and 60s, the venue looms large in Buffalo’s history. In the midst of her heyday, the Main Street club was the Queen city’s finest restaurant and night spot. She was home to shuffling showgirls and tough guys playing cards in the basement (Al Capone among them). The room also hosted a myriad of musical legends such as Frank Sinatra, Nat ¨King¨ Cole, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Les Paul. Anyone who was anyone played the Town Casino.

However, following these storied years the building changed ownership several times. First she was home base for the Studio Arena, then became UB’s Pfeiffer Theater, and in the early 21st Century was remodeled into Sphere Entertainment Complex.

Finally, in 2005, noted Buffalo promoters Artie Kwitchoff and Donny Kutzbach stepped in to restore the old girl to her former glory. Their vision was to bring the venue back to life as the Queen City’s premier concert venue. This included further renovation of the space to ensure the stage was not only magnificent for performers, but was also the best place for fans to see a show. The pièce de résistance was christening the club the Town Ballroom, which called to mind the legendary grandeur of the Town Casino.

Resurrected Velvet Underground club will be reopening as a live music venue in February.

Local entertainment group Embrace Presents has taken over the Queen West venue, which closed in September, and plans to open the revived space early in the new year.

“We heard the Velvet was closing, so we immediately reached out as we had always been huge fans of the venue,” says Embrace’s CEO, Adam Gill.

Embrace has already started to revamp it to focus solely on live music. “We plan is to modernize it and we are doing a big renovation as we speak,” Gill says, “The main difference will be that its focus will be on live music as a concert venue where before it was more a club for goth or industrial music.”

The space, which has been a go-to place for rock, new-wave and metal, was dissolved by Liberty Entertainment Group back in September. According to a press release, the Liberty was shifting gears to focus on expanding a repertoire of wine bars and clubs.

Considered a musical institution by many, the intimate venue has featured an impressive roster of Canadian artists, including Alanis Morissette, who celebrated her chart-topping album release party of Jagged Little Pill there in 1995.

Embrace has announced their official reopening party will take place on February 12, with Toronto’s own dystopian-pop group, TRUST to ring in the comeback of the space.

“We had thought it would be an amazing live venue for a few years now,” say Gill. “Since the Bigbop/reverb closed there has been a void left in the market and we plan to help bring live music back to Queen Street.”
