Description
Function returns for one more set in 2024. Few artists are as assured in their legacy as Function, and few artists have produced as many stunning, truly memorable tracks as he has. His back catalog, from the earliest 12”s on Damon Wild’s Synewave, through the founding of his own Infrastructure, then to the storied collaboration with Regis and Silent Servant (R.I.P.) as Sandwell District, to landmark releases on Ostgut Ton, and more… Function’s innate musicality and ear for both chillingly icy textures and low-key hooks has resulted in a singular, even peerless body of work. To that end, he’s never stopped evolving, expanding and deepening his practice, and his sets today show an artist as fully engaged with his craft decades into his career as he was at the start. Akua dials up the tempo for a devastatingly precise dose of livewire peak time energy. One of NY’s best, Akua has distinguished herself on the international stage a number of times over, playing with unstoppable conviction and a visceral energy. Alex.Cosmos is back with a serious dose of no-limit, driving and euphoric techno.
Hercules & Love Affair headlines STUDIO with a DJ set. The longtime project of Andrew Butler, Hercules & Love Affair has been responsible for some of the modern era’s most beloved, landmark hits. 2008’s “Blind,” with Anohni, was a definitive moment for the DFA Records cohort, standing as a pinnacle of the downtown disco revival that defined the first years of the new millennium. Butler’s work since then has continued to explore the complex hedonism and rugged resilience of the best disco and early house. Vocals by Shaun J. Wright on “Blue Songs” teased out new depths in Butler’s music. Butler’s ceaseless creativity has made the project a hub of collaborative fervor, and 2022 saw the release of “In Amber,” once again featuring Anohni, amongst others. Makadsi returns, echoing the feverish intensity of Hercules & Love Affair’s peak moments. The main mover behind NY’s FUNCTION parties (unrelated to the BASEMENT headliner), Makadsi owns it with a proper infusion of pumping, eroticized bangers. Haruka’s embrace of the heady and captivating sets her apart. The NY selector’s palette is of a piece with foundation NY house and related sample-heavy club genres, but she does it her own way. To listen to Haruka is to find yourself refreshed.
