A Night of Neil (and Linda):
Songs and Stories of Neil Diamond
From his early days as a struggling songwriter, through his chart-topping success of the ‘70s and ‘80s, Neil Diamond has touched the lives of millions. “A Night of Neil (and Linda)” celebrates the long career of this national treasure with the songs that made him and so many other musical artists famous.
Master performer and storyteller Scott Samuels, along with his band, Solitary Diamonds, captures the sights, sounds and stories behind some of Neil’s greatest hits and best-loved tunes with stunningly sonic accuracy. You’ll also hear the hits Neil wrote for The Monkees, Lulu, Barbara Streisand and more. Last but not least, “A Night of Neil (and Linda)” pays homage to the two degrees of separation between Neil Diamond and Linda Ronstadt, with chart-toppers from the early part of Linda’s career, performed by Solitary Diamond’s own Penni Hawkins.
About Scott Samuels
Scott Samuels has been entertaining music-loving audiences since the age of 13, when the Monkees TV show inspired him to learn guitar and form his first band. With his Chicago-area high school slated for closure, he and his bandmates recorded “Save Niles East”, a 45rpm record which now routinely trades hands on websites like eBay and discogs for up to $50.00 a copy.
A move to Southern California in the ‘90s led to the formation of two well-known power-pop bands, and a solo singer-songwriter career that spawned six albums between 2011 and 2021, with performances around the country from 2012 through 2015. In 2024, he led his band Cat 22 to a San Diego Music Award nomination for “Best New Artist.”
But it was back in 2017 that the drummer in his AM Gold cover band pointed out to Scott that he sounded just like Neil Diamond on “Sweet Caroline”. Scott immediately decided to form the band that became Solitary Diamonds. Several years and many sold-out performances later, he continues to find Neil Diamond’s songs and life story an inspiration worth sharing.
