The Funky Latina presents the second annual Emo Primos! Emo Primos is a night celebrating culture, expression and nostalgia. Emo Primos takes place during Hispanic Heritage month and pays homage to the “Emo Scene”, while featuring up and coming talented Latinx Emo and Alternative artists who are reinventing the scene on their own terms! This is your sign to call your primos and pull up to Emo Primos night! The 2026 lineup features the following artists: - The Sols are a bilingual Chicano rock band out of San Diego, California. Their music beautifully reflects and highlights their rich Mexican heritage. Deeply inspired by coastal vibes while embracing their roots near the Mexican border, they feel a profound and growing connection to their cultural identity. - Mannequins are a bilingual indie rock band that blends the emotion of Emo music and Surf punk to create a sound of their own. Fronted by Andy Carrasco Felix, from Phoenix, Arizona. They create melancholy music that makes even the worst day of life worth exploring. The Mannequins are also known as the Muñecos Tristes Del Infierno throughout the Valley of the Sun. - A Downtown Phoenix native & local, Genesis the Nemesis brings non-performative partying back to the dance floor. Raised by a family deeply rooted in the Sonora rock movement of the '80s and '90s, her love for a shameless mosh pit and the kind of emo rolas you cry your eyeliner off to will have you calling your primos to come out. Expect a set packed with emo anthems, rolas pa' llorar y brincar, and the kind of energy that turns strangers into best friends—porque de aquí no nos vamos. Elyssa Bustamante aka The Funky Latina is an Event Producer, Host and Music Curator. In 2022, she founded the Funky Latina Music Festival – an annual showcase for Latin Indie artists. She was also a Partner and Music Curator for the Phochella Art & Music Festival. The Funky Latina is dedicated to increasing Latinx representation in the music industry and producing culturally relevant events throughout her community. Elyssa Bustamante stated: “As a music blogger I’ve attended so many events and I want to ensure every event I produce the Latino community not only feels welcomed but at home.
