Description
Nicola Cruz is an electronic music explorer, with a genuine passion for music selection and an eclectic approach to his craft. Born in France and raised in Ecuador, his journey in music reflects deep appreciation for diverse cultures and sounds, especially rooted in Latin America. From analog synthesizers to field recordings,Cruz utilizes a wide range of tools to sculpt his sound, constantly pushing himself to discover new sonic textures and possibilities. Beyond his solo work, Cruz is also known for his collaborations with musicians from diverse backgrounds, further enriching his sonic landscape.
Cruz began djing in 2005, as a resident in Quito's main club 'Blues', a melting pot for what will be the capital's prompt of the uprising electronic music scene. Coming from a city where there was no fixed direction or horizon for this music, all that has transcended has been through a slow process of hearing, learning, interpreting and translating these roots of electronic music onto his own language.
El Marchante - Osmar Romero is the founder of El Marchante, a cultural project born in Caracas in 2015 that has evolved into a platform dedicated to researching, curating, and sharing Latin American and Caribbean music. Based between Caracas and Los Angeles, El Marchante explores the intersections of memory, migration, and sound through vinyl, live events, and collaborations that honor regional heritage across borders.
The project has appeared on stages such as the Hollywood Bowl and Grand Performances, touring across the United States and performing alongside artists including La Lom, Boogaloo Assassins, Adrián Quesada and Juanes. It has also travelled abroad to cities such as Mexico City, Toronto and Bogotá, cultivating international dialogue through music.
El Marchante has collaborated with institutions such as LA PHIL, the University of California, the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center and The Music Center, as well as with record labels including Fania, Ansonia, and Diamond West, reaffirming its commitment to preserving and amplifying the diverse voices and rhythms that shape Latin American identity.
Pheels - Phil Cho aka Pheels is a DJ, musician, and writer based in Los Angeles. He is known for his work as the chief curator behind In Sheep's Clothing (label, events promoter, record store, and music publication) and co-host of the monthly Tuff Shed show on NTS. Since 2016, he has hosted an ongoing "home listening/dance" party called Third Place, which has over the years invited guests Chee Shimizu, Lovefingers, Jonny Nash, Suzanne Kraft, Pender Street Steppers, John Gomez, Ramzi, Shhhhh and others... In recent years, he has shifted his focus to instruments and music production with his Chinese downtempo-pop group SY3 (upcoming release on Music from Memory) and dubwise band PULI with AV Moves and Magic Touch.
ZZK Records
It’s the latest of more than two dozen events hosted by ZZK Presents since the label relocated to the City of Angels in summer 2019, with one mission: To shine a spotlight on the spaciest, spiciest, sultriest sounds for a hungry crowd of cultural connoisseurs – after nearly a decade of bubbling up in Buenos Aires, Bogota, Lima, Quito, La Paz and Mexico City.
