Oakland-based art rock band Gumby’s Junk began in 2018 as a complete mishap. Pushing musical surrealism to its limits with outrageous harmonies, circus-fast riffs, and a genre-defying mishmash, they have been described as oblique, colorful madness—like running fast while looking at the ground. With a shared love for acts like Deerhoof and Ween, Jas, Emmalee, and Eli began Gumby’s Junk one balmy summer in Oakland, California. An assortment of DIY generator shows, art parties, and a performance in the back of a U-Haul rental led to their 2022 debut release, Apple House. Stitching together angular improvisations, disorienting prank phone calls, and waggish vocal harmony spelling lessons, Apple House brought Gumby’s Junk new friends—and foes—within the Bay Area music scene. https://www.instagram.com/gumbysjunk/
Once described as “dance music for people who don’t like to dance,” Rip Room prefers the humble designation “dance music for people who like to dance … but are also bummed out”. This three-piece from San Francisco play high-energy art punk with a math-y, prog edge — propulsive rhythms and piercing lyrics, but with a sense of buoyancy — wolves in sheep’s clothing. The band released their first full length LP with Spartan Records and is currently working on their next record. https://www.instagram.com/riproom/
Inner Ear Brigade is creatively unfiltered: a mix of progressive rock, jazz, and experimental pop delivered through intricately detailed compositions and arrangements."(East Bay Express) Inner Ear Brigade (IEB) has toured around the US and played several festivals. They have released three full length albums, Perkunas, Dromology, and Rainbro. "Inner Ear Brigade creates its own compelling universe, full of unexpected twists and turns, bursts of ear-bending virtuosity"(Fred Frith) Steeped with a vintage analog sensibility, effects processing, and synthesizers, IEB draws inspiration for their sounds from “RIO elements (Rock In Opposition), Canterbury Sound, Magma Zeuhl, and Frank Zappa”. IEB is led by Bay Area guitarist and composer Bill Wolter. Band members of IEB have played / worked with the Secret Chiefs 3, Cheer Accident, Fantastic Negrito, and members of the Grateful Dead. https://www.instagram.com/innerearbrigade/
