Description
This October, DJ Stingray 313 presents Echogenesis: a new, groundbreaking tour where he’s joined by two of the most exciting and impactful voices of the modern era: Akua and 1morning. What all three share is a deeply-rooted connection to the revolutionary core of techno as well as a vision for its future that honors a spirit of unbounded innovation. The “echogenesis” refers to this “creation of resonances that ripple through generations, spaces and minds… it catalyzes reverberations that extend far beyond the immediate dancefloor.”
This certainly rings true for Stingray. An architect of electro and modern techno, Stingray is an artist whose innovative spirit and sense of relentless exploration cannot be contained. He is a master DJ, a prolific producer whose works sound like no one else and an omnivorous seeker across mediums and forms. His backstory is of a piece with the development of Detroit’s second wave of techno, and his collaborators stand amongst some of the most essential voices in the genre. Akua represents the faster, harder edge. Having emerged in the NY underground approximately a decade ago, Akua has made herself into an artist of international renown. Playing with a feverish drive, Akua harnesses the rhythmically dense with razor sharp focus. 1morning returns from Los Angeles, matching the speed and urgency with a serious dose of funk. Capturing the cutthroat wildness of classic battle techniques and the seething propulsion of the best ‘90s techno, 1morning’s music feels like a revelation. He distills the best of the genre and uses it as a launchpad into the future.
Pablo Bozzi has ascended over the past few years to the level of folk hero, consistently sending audiences on a euphoric high with one legendary set after the other. A quick skim through his exemplary catalog will give you more than enough of an idea what he’s about; track titles like “Neon Dreams”, “Fantasy” and “Danger Zone” speak to a consuming love affair with the best, most garish aspects of the ‘80s. But Bozzi never feels dated, finding creative frisson in that era’s trademark sounds. Manu Miran has become one of the key figures in the NY underground over the last few years. The Visceral founder taps into an unruly vein, with coursing, hedonistic grooves pulling you into an undertow. Arvin T returns. The Gabriela resident draws on the pulsating sounds of italo disco, raw house and ravey acid. His own productions for E-MISSIONS and Return To Forever glisten with sharp edges and shimmering surfaces.
