Description
Melbourne 10-piece Funk outfit launch their anticipated debut album with special guests, masters of vintage Afro Disco and Psychedelic Boogie, Wrong Way Up plus Northside DJs turning the night well and truly into a party.
2025 has seen the band garner worldwide attention with their own crisp, sophisticated take on Funk across a steady stream of singles, starting with “Bells Are Ringing”, “I’m A Fool”, “Won’t You Decide” and “Turn This Love Around”.
Formed by the rhythm section of in demand session bassist Luke Hodgson and drummer Graeme Pogson (GL, The Bamboos), they gathered around them some of the finest musicians from the city’s now legendary Soul scene, including five incredible vocalists: Jade MacRae, Susie Goble, Francisco Tavares, Aaron Mendoza and Jason Heerah.
Formed originally as a concept band, equipped with an ever-evolving setlist of late ‘70s and early ‘80s Funk classics, their journey has seen them invited to be the backing band for the Australian tours of such luminaries as Leroy Burgess and the iconic Evelyn "Champagne" King. Having performed at Meredith Music Festival, Golden Plains and Panama festivals and at numerous residencies Mondo Freaks have carved their mark, returning now to ring in a new era of groove-soaked original music.
