Description
Berlin’s Tresor takes over BASEMENT for this very special edition. The club and label are unequivocal bastions of techno. Their discography includes landmark releases from Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, 3Phase, Blake Baxter, Joey Beltram and many, many more. Over 35 years, the club has been a home to some of the most important techno ever. For this takeover, they’ve invited a standout roster. Kangding Ray is one of the genre’s most unique and forward-thinking artists. His work blends throbbing, hypnotic forms with visionary sound design, an artful touch and conceptual rigor. Last month’s “Superfluid” EP shows him in peak form. Gleaming sonic structures are rendered in ultra-HD, speaking to a dreamlike space of shimmering, spiritual perfection. UFO95 performs live. A resident of Tresor, the French artist goes all in on no-holds-barred techno with a gritty, hardline flavor and a fearless intensity. Last year’s “Backwards Improvement” on Tresor is about as menacing an EP you could hope for, marshalling the tensile strength of loop techno with laser focus and layers of crystalline distortion. Fellow Tresor resident Choe Lula brings a cinematic richness to her productions. With a background in classical music, her recent “Oneiris” LP sees her returning to the cello - the instrument she trained on for years before diving into a DJ career - to sculpt harrowing, haunting and moving sonic landscapes. “Oneiris” is remarkable for its ability to feel like a techno LP while relying so heavily on atmosphere, acoustic instrumentation and beatless mood. Scibor returns to BASEMENT. As a producer, his spacious and hypnotic tracks stand out for their remarkable restraint.
