Kangding Ray is a French musician, DJ and producer. Kangding Ray, whose real name is David Letellier, is a graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Bretagne. Former guitarist in rock and noise groups, he took advantage of his arrival in Berlin in 2001 as part of the end of his studies to start producing his own music. He chose his pseudonym just before the release of his first album, in 2006, in reference to the Chinese city of Kangding where he was then. Among his influences, he cites My Bloody Valentine, Joy Division, Depeche Mode and DJ Shadow. His productions are published by the Raster-Noton and Stroboscopic Artefacts labels. In 2019, he launched his own record label, named ara.
