PORANGUÍ
with YOUSSOUPHA SIDIBE and MARYA STARK
General Admission Standing Room with Limited Seating
Prepare to embark on a transcendent journey with the world-renowned musician, healer, and educator Poranguí, as he graces Berkely, California on October 12th, at the UC Berkeley Theatre. Accompanied by the visionary co-facilitator Ashley Klein, they extend an invitation to an embodied experience that seamlessly bridges the seen and unseen worlds. Through the universal language of music, dance, and authentic expression, Poranguí’s live improvised performances and Ashley’s spoken guidance coalesce with captivating visual projections, promising an unparalleled odyssey that leaves us more whole, alive, and deeply connected.
The Chakaruna World Bridging Tour draws its inspiration from the ancient Quechua concept of "Chakaruna," meaning World Bridger. "Chaka" represents the Bridge, while "Runa" symbolizes the People, reflecting the sacred duty of forging connections between the tangible and the intangible, the Earth and the Spirit, the individual and the collective. Through this tour, Poranguí invites us to step into our own roles as Chakarunas, intricately weaving our spirits into the vibrant tapestry of life and synchronizing with the pulsating heartbeat of the Earth.
We're thrilled to feature Marya Stark - Giving life to mystic worlds within stories, dances, and universes born of the heart, Marya Stark creates from someplace profound; she makes the invisible visible. Carrier of myth, mystery, and medicine songs. Sometimes melodies manifest from spaces esoteric, others through the untold intimacies of a messy interpersonal relationship. Marya Stark understands and communicates archetypal voices, assigning them their own personalities in her songs; she sings hymns for nature guardians, serenading the great mythic heroes that live inside our collective memory.
We're also honored to showcase Youssoupha Sidibe, a Grammy-nominated virtuoso of the Kora from Senegal. Merging timeless West African harmonies with contemporary feel, Youssoupha embodies the tour's spirit of connecting worlds. His soulful preludes set a transcendent tone, inviting us into a night of rich cultural harmony and musical magic.
