Description
GUÉ PEQUENO (Cosimo Fini) was born in Milan in 1980. One of the most influential and respected rappers in Italy, from the beginning of his now 20-year career he became a reference point for the Italian hip hop scene, and later for the entire music scene.
After releasing in 2000 the first cult EP "3 MC's Al cubo" with the Sacre Scuole (a trio formed by him, Jake La Furia and Dargen D'Amico), with Jake La Furia and producer Don Joe he gave birth to Club Dogo, a group with which from 2003 to 2014 he released seven studio albums, imposing himself to the attention of public and critics and paving the way for the success of Italian rap also in the charts and in the generalist media. In 2011 his first solo project, Il ragazzo d'oro, was released, which in a pre-streaming and pre-instore era in which record sales were still very limited, achieved gold record status. In 2013 it was the turn of Bravo ragazzo, with which he would go platinum. Two years later, he is the first Italian artist to sign for the iconic record label Def Jam Recordings, with which he releases Vero, his third solo work, which is also certified platinum and, like the previous ones, also highly praised by the music press.
In 2016, together with his lifelong friend Marracash, he released the long-awaited collaborative project Santeria, written and recorded between Milan, Tenerife (Canary Islands) and Trançoso (Brazil) and much influenced by the atmospheres absorbed in these places: it will reach double platinum status and collect an endless sequence of certifications for singles. His fourth solo album, Gentleman, with an international and contemporary feel, was in 2017; certified double platinum, it was one of the rap albums of the year, with four weeks at the top of the charts. In 2017 Gué was the most listened to Italian artist on Spotify.
In September 2018, he released Sinatra, the first work featuring a collaboration with his new team: BHMG. Also thanks to the artistic direction of Charlie Charles, the producer who in a very few years revolutionized the Italian rap scene, Sinatra is a record divided between a more trap and a more Latin soul, at the level of the best international productions. Certified platinum, it anticipated his first live performance at Milan's Forum (the concert is sold-out) and his first at Sanremo (as Mahmood's guest on the duets night, February 2019). In April 2019 he is one of the judges on The Voice of Italy, broadcast on Rai2. In June 2019 he surprisingly releases the concept EP Freezing Summer, inspired by the sounds and atmospheres that dominate the warm season. Two years after Sinatra, Gué Pequeno releases Mr. Fini (to date certified Double Platinum) where he demonstrates, once again, his absolute centrality and relevance in the current scene. In the album, as never before, all his musical, geographical, literary and cinematic influences are evident, a true auteur kolossal with varied settings, alternating action scenes, epic climaxes and intimate, neorealist shots.
In April 2021, the release of the new chapter of GUÉ PEQUENO & DJ HARSH's mixtape is announced: Fastlife vol. 4, which follows and adds to the release of the celebratory edition of Il Ragazzo D'Oro - 10 years later, Guè Pequeno's first album. Exactly as ten years earlier, when the release of his first solo project was followed by Fastlife Vol. 3, the mixtape continues in the same tradition, joining the release of the album celebrating the ten-year career of the multi-platinum artist and central reference figure of the genre who, with each and every one of his releases between confirmations and multiple certifications, has never stopped charting new paths and dictating new rules.
January 17, 2023 sees the release of his latest album Madreperla, a project for which Bassi Maestro produced all 12 tracks featured.
Madreperla is first and foremost a declaration of love to the sounds and artists that have inspired Gué since his early days. The dark atmospheres of New York hip hop; the psychedelic and distorted synthesizers brought as a dowry from LA's G Funk; the raw and dissonant minimalism of the dirty south; the art of storytelling and attention to the use of samples... His is a stylistic exercise that sees him retracing the footsteps of overseas giants, now that he himself is a giant of European rap, in a continuous game of homages and references to the genre's most authentic cornerstones, especially in stylistic terms.
Parallel to his musical activity, Gué is also a successful entrepreneur: he founded the label Tanta Roba together with DJ Harsh (which launched the likes of Salmo, Ensi, Ghali, Gemitaiz, Madman, Priestess, and Fedez) and the fashion brand Z€N (which later also became a legal cannabis brand).
