Located directly in the heart of Griffintown, this heritage building has become one of today’s hottest spots in town. Originally built in 1859 the New City Gas complex used to transform coal into gas for lighting Montréal’s streets and buildings. Today, the heritage complex has been transformed into a multifunctional event space encompassing over 40,000 square feet on two floors. Flexible enough to adapt to client needs, the building can accommodate up to three different rooms, each possessing the combination of historic character and contemporary design. When re-opened in 2012 as an event space, its existing shell was maintained and a live venue was built out with a state of the art sound and light experience, while the original vintage and historical elements were restored. New City Gas’ impressive roofs and stone masonry remain a strong and evocative presence in the urban landscape. What was once an energy source for the city’s lights is now a glowing presence in the Montreal nightlife scene; New City Gas caters to over 3,000 people each and every week.

Formerly The Annex Wreck Room, Coda is a nightclub that stands out for its impressive audio and lighting system. The venue is currently one of the hottest dance clubs in Toronto. The most energetic and intense tracks will feel like they are directly pumping through your veins as you get hyped and hit the spacious dance floor. Making proper use of their sprawling space, the high caliber nightclub is dedicated to creating an environment that makes it easy for its patrons to lose themselves to the music as the kickass PK sound system delivers notes of the songs with crisp clarity. Coda specializes in electronic, house and techno music and has a rotating selection of underground DJs to play on the weekends. Built around the far side of the dance floor is an elevated corridor with bar stools that gives you a perched area if you are not the most confident of dancers or just like to people-watch.

Resurrected Velvet Underground club will be reopening as a live music venue in February.

Local entertainment group Embrace Presents has taken over the Queen West venue, which closed in September, and plans to open the revived space early in the new year.

“We heard the Velvet was closing, so we immediately reached out as we had always been huge fans of the venue,” says Embrace’s CEO, Adam Gill.

Embrace has already started to revamp it to focus solely on live music. “We plan is to modernize it and we are doing a big renovation as we speak,” Gill says, “The main difference will be that its focus will be on live music as a concert venue where before it was more a club for goth or industrial music.”

The space, which has been a go-to place for rock, new-wave and metal, was dissolved by Liberty Entertainment Group back in September. According to a press release, the Liberty was shifting gears to focus on expanding a repertoire of wine bars and clubs.

Considered a musical institution by many, the intimate venue has featured an impressive roster of Canadian artists, including Alanis Morissette, who celebrated her chart-topping album release party of Jagged Little Pill there in 1995.

Embrace has announced their official reopening party will take place on February 12, with Toronto’s own dystopian-pop group, TRUST to ring in the comeback of the space.

“We had thought it would be an amazing live venue for a few years now,” say Gill. “Since the Bigbop/reverb closed there has been a void left in the market and we plan to help bring live music back to Queen Street.”

Autoerotique stores electro, techno, house, Dutch house, Dutch-colonial house, rave, rock, rave-rock, indie-rock and even ska on speed dial and calls them up frequently. Their effortlessly protean, shape-shifting sound can careen wildly from project to project, so it’s not unexpected to hear them transform from Techno to, say, Norwegian black metal on the same record – thus, earning them the lazily au courant nick name “Autobots”.

The ambiguously great duo’s Keith Robertson & David “Dave” Henderson were homegrown and shifted-into-shape within the multi-culti bustle of Toronto’s west end. Cutting their collective teeth as indie band producers they hop-scotched over to dance music after receiving a marijuana-lubricated epiphany to Groove Armanda’s first album at the tenderized age of 17—only to be swallowed whole by the city’s burgeoning dance scene.

After toiling as producers for EMI during 2008, these working class heroes took a much-deserved personal break and like Martin & Lewis, Simon & Garfunkel, The Captain & Tannille etc. before them, steered their separate courses and architected their respective solo projects (Keith’s being a lioness taming program, & Dave’s an almost terrifyingly intense prog-opera set in rural Bosnia on the eve of WW1). It wasn’t until late 2008 when the group reunited putting all side projects conveniently aside.

Returning in early 2009 and signing with Dim Mak Records, the duo streaked like a tracer bullet through the strobe-lit sky of the T.O. dance community with their official first single Gladiator featuring remixes by Aoki/AM, Klever, Larry Tee/Alexander Technique, The Faint, AC Slater & Milano.

Following the Gladiator EP, Autoerotique showed off the many colourful arrows in their musical quiver releasing remixes for Benny Benassi, Felix Luker, Tiesto, Etienne de Crecy, Joachim Garraud, Sarah McLeod, Lykke Li, Shinichi Osawa, Chris Cornell & Timbaland, Diplo & Laidback luke, Larry Tee, B. Rich, Disco Bisquits, Fischerspooner and Weezer.

Born of radical sonic possibilities and limitless permutations, Electronic music has always been a fluid genre where innovation is prized. Having been at the forefront of the sprawling genre since 2009, Dylan Mamid (DC) and Zachary Rapp-Rovan (Hooks), aka Zeds Dead, are acutely aware of how vital new ideas are. That’s why when the Toronto-based producer/DJs finally took time off from headlining festivals, they crafted a debut album full of dynamic, forward-thinking songs that defy categorization and disrupt musical foundations.

The products of two musically-inclined households, DC and Hooks played piano before moving onto the guitar. As teens, they became enamored with the beats of ’90s hip-hop producers (e.g. DJ Premier, Pete Rock) and formed production duo Mass Productions (MP). Like DJ Shadow or RJD2, they explored the boundless potential of hip-hop based instrumental music.

This insatiable appetite for sonic exploration has been the guiding principal of their career. In college, DC and Hooks became entranced by the rhythms of drum & bass, dubstep, and electro. Changing their name to Zeds Dead, the pair founded one of Canada’s most storied club nights: Bassmentality. Initially held in the tiny basement of 751, around-the-block crowds prompted a relocation to Toronto’s Wrongbar, where the duo booked artists like Skrillex, Borgore, and Nero.

Zeds Dead haven’t stopped their ascent since Bassmentality, touring the world, performing to thousands at music festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, Osheaga, HARD, Ultra, Tomorrowland Belgium, plus the biggest stages in India, Asia, & South America. Zeds Dead have also launched their own events, notably their annual Deadrocks event at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater, which they most recently sold out in June of 2016, and their first annual Deadbeats Toronto event at Echo beach in August 2016.

The group’s compelling, high-intensity live shows double as a showcase for their ever-expanding catalog. To date, Zeds Dead has released projects with electronic music titans like Ultra (The Living Dead) and Mad Decent. The duo considers their 2014 EP, Somewhere Else (Mad Decent), a significant artistic milestone. With features from Twin Shadow and Perry Farrell, among others, Hooks and DC seamlessly fused the sonic hallmarks of contemporary hip-hop with brain-melting bass, poignant piano keys, and more.

“The way Somewhere Else came together, the concept behind it, and the way we worked with other people — it was closer to my main vision for Zeds Dead,” says DC.

Zeds Dead fully realizes this vision on their forthcoming album, Northern Lights. Released via the group’s DeadBeats imprint, it is the culmination of two musical journeys, of years of collaboration, touring, and recording. As such, the album encompasses much of life’s emotional complexities. Some songs evoke the wistfulness of nostalgia, others the uncertainty of the present. While others still brim with bright-eyed hope for the future.

“It’s music that works best at night. The northern lights are something beautiful and vibrant coming out of the night sky,” explains DC. “That contrast provided the framework for the album.”

Charly, Thomas, Pho and Pitchin started touring the world in 2006 with their incomparable live act, combining the efficiency of a DJ set to the spirit and energy of a rock concert.
In 2008, the band takes a new scope when “French Fuck” gets signed to Shimon’s label (AudioPorn). After its release, the 12” climbs the charts to reach the first place and stays number one for a couple of weeks, bringing them immediatly at the forefront of the scene.

All those tracks got heavy support from the world’s most famous DJs of the electronic music scene: Pete Tong, Steve Aoki, Skrillex, Rusko, Benga, Datsik, Flux Pavillion, Doctor P, Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Kissy Sell Out, Annie Nightingale, Andy C, Chase & Status, Subfocus, Pendulum…

All at the same time, the band keeps to intensively tour the world from trendy clubs to the biggest festivals (Electric Daisy Carnival, Glastonbury, Monegros, SXSW, Dour, Plages Electroniques, Solidays, Starscape, Les Nuits Zebrees, Beatpatrol, Audioriver, Together As One, Nordik Impact, Arena, Government, Metrocity, Brixton Academy, Pirate Station, Beyond Wonderland, Big Chill, Global Gathering…) and in the summer 2010, moved to Los Angeles for their acclaimed “French Do It Better” tour around the USA and Canada.

Since then, the band has been asked to remix tracks for big names such as Benny Benassi, Skrillex, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Crystal Method, Nero, The Bloody Beetroots… and appears on labels such as Warner, Ultra, MTA, Virgin, Ram Records or Dim Mak.

If you don't know her by name, you've certainly heard her voice. Heather Bright is responsible for some of EDM's biggest records including "Language" with Porter Robinson, "Stars Come Out" with Zedd, and "Don't Blame The Party" with Bingo Players, just to name a few. This Grammy-nominated songstress has collaborated with everyone from Usher to Britney Spears to Justin Bieber. Now she introduces BRIGHT LIGHTS, an ever-growing collective of artists whose sound blends cinematic dance music (CDM) with underground pop. "Bright Lights is based on a screenplay. So all the characters come to life in the music and on stage. We are singers, writers, directors, producers, illustrators, dancers, and all-around go-getters. Some of the best talent you will ever discover is right here!" says Bright. Much about this venture has been kept under wraps, including her rock star team of producers and songwriters. 3LAU approaches electronic dance music from an unexpected angle. The artist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and entrepreneur born Justin Blau usually begins his compositions on the piano.

“Everything typically starts on the piano,” he affirms. “I like to create the framework for a song traditionally and then add the electronics later.”

It’s a style he’s been cultivating since childhood. Commencing piano lessons at the age of three, he’ll tell you that he couldn’t go to sleep without classical music as a kid. His tastes would veer towards the likes of Radiohead and Sigur Ros in high school as he taught himself guitar, bass, and drums. During his sophomore year of college, he took a trip to Sweden and fell in love with electronic dance music. Upon returning home, 3LAU began creating.

“I was so inspired by that trip,” he says. “I realized the possibilities within the genre, and I started making mashups bringing together well-known pop vocals and dance beats.”

Leaving college in his junior year, he became a favorite on the club scene through relentless touring, initially turning heads with those innovative mashups. His 2013 original single “Escape” established his profile further. Generating 30 million-plus total streams, “How You Love Me” [feat. Bright Lights] dominated radio and closed out 2014 as SiriusXM BPM’s “Most Played Record of the Year.” Along the way, he’d garner support from the likes of Tiësto, Steve Aoki, Hardwell, Martin Garrix, and many more. However, he wanted to do more with music, so he launched Blume—the “first not-for-profit dance music label and philanthropic movement.”

“Everybody treats music as a business,” he sighs. “I wanted to put the focus back on the music itself and do something good with it.”

His first single for Blume, “Is It Love” [feat. Yeah Boy], introduces the label, the movement, and a new sound. Coupling together a big room hook and entrancing production, the song racked up 2 million streams in less than a month. Meanwhile, the proceeds from its sales and streams supported the educational nonprofit Pencils of Promise (PoP)—which enables the construction of schools in developing countries. Pencils of Promise is just the first charity collaboration as 3LAU will diversify Blume’s impact in the charitable world with each subsequent release.

After much success with his previous moniker, Stupid Fresh, producer Chris Elliott started his his solo project "Nom De Strip" in 2009. Chris has since gone on to release many underground hits, and more recently has put out two acclaimed EP's - Clouds EP Vol 1 and Vol 2 - as well as an official remix of Tommy Trash’s ‘Monkey See Monkey Do’. All these tracks finding their natural home on deadmau5's highly successful mau5trap label imprint.

Nom has been hailed as one to watch by industry heavyweights such as deadmau5, Tiesto, Swedish House Mafia, Wolfgang Gartner, Tommy Trash, Dada Life and Dirty South. The producer was greeted with massive support from deadmau5 in 2012, leading to a string of remixes under the mau5trap label. Recent key tracks include ‘The Nothing’, 'Swagnum P.I.', and a remix of mau5's ‘Channel 42', both tracks having a meteoric impact online.

In 2013, he signed an exclusive deal with Chris Lake’s Rising Music label. With his forthcoming and eagerly anticipated collaboration with Hatiras called “Nippleodeon” as well as collabs with Chris Lake, TJR, and Nezzo to name a few, Nom De Strip is no doubt one to watch.

Estelle is an award winning singer-songwriter for the R&B genre, producer, as well as rapper, in the UK. She was born as Estelle Fanta Swaray in the 18th of January in 1980. Estelle has received numerous trophies such as "Best Female Artist" for the UK Hip-Hop Awards and "Best Newcomer" for the MOBO Awards.

Estelle got her break from "Deal Real" as her co-workers encouraged her to sing on-stage. Her performance led to gigs in various clubs in London. In 2004, "The 18th Day" Estelle's debut album was released, with the singles "Free" (produced by Jimmy Hogarth, who also co-wrote the said song with Estelle) and "1980" becoming smash hits in the UK. "The 18th Day" was placed in the 35th spot in the UK Album Charts.

After a hiatus, Estelle worked with Kanye West and the duo came up with "American Boy" which gave worldwide fame to Estelle. "American Boy" was included in the Top Ten Hits of various countries in almost every part of the world. The said track also became a chart-topper in the UK Singles Chart as well as in the music charts of Israel and Belgium. It also gave Estelle an award from the Grammies for "Best Rap/Sung Collaboration". "American Boy" was also listed in the Rollingstone's "100 Best Songs" for 2008.

Following "American Boy" is Estelle's "No Substitute Love", which remained at number 30 on the Singles Chart in the UK, with moderate success. "Come Over" and "Pretty Please (Love Me)" were the next singles to be released, but were not as successful as Estelle's previous records. "Pretty Please (Love Me)" held the 103rd spot in the UK Singles Chart, while "Come Over" was not able to reach the charts.

In April 2008, Estelle also made "Shine" available to the public, which was the very first album released under the Homeschool Label and in cooperation with Atlantic Records, owned by popular artist John Legend. Estelle's "Shine" turned gold which was certified by the UK's Phonographic Industry and was even nominated in the 2008 Mercury Music Prize. Estelle was also featured in the show entitled "Safari" just last year, playing the role of "Augy". Other awards won by Estelle include: "Download of the Year" (for American Boy) in the 02 Silver Clef Awards; "Best New R&B Act" in the World Music Awards; "Best Collaboration" in the UMA Awards; "Best New Artist" in the BET-J Virtual Awards.
