This fall, Philly’s indie sweethearts Queen of Jeans return with hard/SWEET, their new album about how tenderness can be an act of resistance in a world that rewards cynicism and rage.
Out October 9 on Memory Music, the label founded by Grammy Award-winning producer Will Yip (Turnstile, Title Fight), the album title is taken from a lyric in the album’s closing track (“I could be hard or I could be sweet, just tell me the version you’re needing of me"), but works as a theme for the record as a whole. Throughout, Queen of Jeans balances the tension between self-protection and kindness.
Across songs of desire, devotion, heartbreak, hope, and belonging, hard/SWEET explores the vulnerability of letting yourself love deeply, even when the world feels uncertain. It’s about finding home in another person, reaching toward strangers, and believing that tenderness, intimacy, and human connection are worth fighting for.
Produced by the band and Justin Bartlett, mixed by Yip and Bartlett, and mastered by Yip, hard/SWEET is a fitting title for the band’s fourth LP. Since forming in 2017, Queen of Jeans’ sound has always been soft around the edges but explores feelings that are anything but. As their sound has developed, they’ve refined a signature built around dreamy guitars, adventurous instrumentation, crushing lyricism, and one of the most underrated voices in modern indie rock: vocalist/guitarist Miri Devora. With guitarist Mattie Glass and bassist Andrew Nitz, Queen of Jeans are effortlessly timeless but still of-the-times, and continue to be one of indie’s most consistently compelling bands
Little Oso
Portland, ME-based dreampop artists, Little Oso, commemorate summertime nostalgia with catchy melodies, shimmering vocals, and spacey lead guitar riffs.
"Simulation Games" will be the first single off of Little Oso’s second full length album of the same title, Simulation Games, set for release late spring/early summer 2027. This album will be the first to feature Little Oso’s newest member, Daniel Juergens, on synthesizer and samplers, adding more dimension and complexity to each song.
Milk St.
Hardcore Soft Rock from New England Milk St. is the musical brainchild of songwriter and bandleader Jonah Wakefield. Conceived in Bangor, ME, where Wakefield grew up - a town best known as the home of famed horror writer Stephen King - the band hit the ground running in 2022 with their debut album, Spaced, launching headfirst into the cruel and unforgiving world of DIY touring. In just over a year, they performed one hundred and forty shows, from Maine to Florida to Toronto and almost everywhere in between. In 2023, the band released their second album, the critically acclaimed V3RMONT, which opened new doors for them. Jonah and his bandmates found themselves sharing the stage with such acts as Pile, Sister Wife Sex Strike, and Pigeon Pit and playing sold-out shows in their home base of New England. Fast-forward to 2026, and much like the maestro of horror who broke out with the success of his first few novels, the Bangor band is fast becoming one of the hottest artistic exports from the Pine Tree State. With a recent move to New Hampshire to make touring distances a little shorter, the alternative rock band - with a foot in the door of art, indie, and folk punk - has quickly become one of the most exciting and relevant acts on the scene today. With their forthcoming LP, Good Grief - a luminous thirteen-track offering - they provide more than enough testament to their authenticity and inventiveness.
