UNDERCITY Seoul, South Korea UNDERCITY presents Ma Haiping (AXIS | SOMA | MOLECULAR) Ma Haiping is one of China’s leading techno producers and DJs. He gained international recognition with 《Chang’e-4》, released on Axis Records, founded by Jeff Mills. Inspired by China’s historic Chang’e-4 mission—the first spacecraft to successfully land on the far side of the Moon—the album combines the futurist aesthetics of Detroit Techno with experimental sound design, capturing Ma’s distinctive sonic vision. After discovering electronic music in the 1990s, Ma began producing industrial and experimental music around 2000. In 2013, he released 《The Chinese Connection》 EP on Scan 7’s Cratesaves International, becoming the first Chinese producer to release techno on a Detroit-based label. He has since continued to build his international presence through releases on Axis Records, Soma Records, and Molecular Recordings. Evolving loops, sharp percussion, relentless rhythms, and a vast sense of space define Ma Haiping’s sound. His music has received support from Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Ben Sims, DVS1, Rødhåd, Kr!z, and Rene Wise, while his international appearances include Basement NY and underground venues around the world. Reinterpreting the futurist spirit of Detroit Techno in his own language, Ma Haiping continues to bridge China and Detroit—and the past and future of techno.
