welcome to offal literary salon iii – *heterodoxxing: queer weird as hostile cathexis*, with special guest megan milks and featuring dave riser, bee michael, reo eveleth, and rebecca peng. freud’s position of the hostile cathexis asserts an occupation of a foreign or alien object/subject within a territory; often interpreted as a pathological phenomenon (something taking root in the psyche, the domain of memory, compulsion, obsession, deviance, psychic intrusion). for offal iii we are instead interested in the hostile occupation of queerness in heteronormative and hegemonic spaces, in queerness as a disruption, infestation, or viral moment and movement rupturing orthodoxy, providing heterodoxy, and “doxxing” landscapes otherwise colonized and populated by heteronormativity. what does it look like to repopulate these spaces with an uncanny queerness? which visions – carpenter’s the thing, invasion of the body snatchers, barker’s hellraiser and nightbreed – become signifier for the queer weird which subsumes and transforms the ecosystem it is introduced to? queerness as an invasive species that repatterns the dna structures of whatever it makes contact with, and inviolably changes it. like hydrae, a viral load of queerness splits, self-replicates, transmutes, subsumes. sticky spindles of sluicing otherness and desire as a syringe already loaded, plunger-tongues and too many hands and fingers where ribs should be. join us for the third offal iii, nyc's reading series & salon by the freaks 4 the freaks. make sure to arrive at 6:30 sharp! \- Public Records aims to provide a safer space.
