Check out Washington DC's hometown heroes Oh He Dead as they debut songs from their fourth studio album, Vertigo. It only takes about ninety seconds in the room to understand why this band is one of DC's most beloved live acts. Frontwoman CJ Johnson, the "distinctively raspy," "huge-voiced" singer profiled by the Washington Post, leads a group NIVA named one of the "must-see live performers of 2023." Across five releases on their own Wally Baba Records, the Blood in the Water EP (2018), Oh HeDead (2019), Pretty (2023), Ugly (2024), and Vertigo (2026), the band has built a catalog that refuses to pick a lane while "reshaping [soul] for the better with every gritty note and groovy riff" (The Daily Trojan).
Nodaway has found its stride after climbing to 10+ million streams. Combining infectious pop melodies, jazz keys, driving fuzzed out guitars, and a falsetto akin to Jeff Buckley, the project has its own take on jazzy indie rock. 777 Seasons, released August 28th, was cut all-analog and live to tape at The Kinks' Konk Studios, with players who've worked with Yellow Days, Balu Brigada, beabadoobee and Sault. The album has over 250,000 Spotify streams in its first month. The London release show sold out after Nodaway taped CD players and headphones to lampposts across North London with QR codes to buy tickets. Nodaway's first ever LA show created a line around the block with some people driving nearly 50 miles to see the band perform
