Description
The second biggest joy in music is discovering an act that blows you away. The biggest is sharing that act with people you love. This gig is an act of sharing.
Mathias Kom, songwriter and lead singer of acclaimed Canadian indie rock band The Burning Hell, brings his legendary live energy to London on December 10th for a unique evening: a full solo set, plus an introduction to one of his favourite acts in the world.
For over 25 years, Nev Clay has been Newcastle's best-kept secret. After two albums around the turn of the millennium, he spent more than two decades building a devoted following through appearances at the city's iconic venues. Revered by fans and musicians alike as a songwriter's songwriter and one of the UK's great underrated gems, Clay returned in 2024 with his first album in over 20 years, So Little Happened For So Long.
His sharp eye for lyrical detail recalls John Cooper Clarke and Jarvis Cocker, while his lo-fi approach might evoke Richard Dawson. But perhaps the influence runs the other way: Dawson cut his teeth on the same live circuits as Clay, and the two remain close friends, with Dawson contributing backing vocals to Clay's latest album.
This December, Folklore and Folkroom present an evening of discovery at The Victoria in Dalston, as Mathias Kom and Nev Clay perform together and apart. Come for the music you love; leave having discovered something new.
Presented by Folklore (Label).
