Description
Transcending once again from FL to New York — a special crew with distinct sounds are returning for another all-night edition of Candela at Bossa Nova Civic Club Sunday, August 30th.
Greg Beato, a staple in the Miami scene, and whose enigmatic essence continues to go unnoticed, has made it obvious that although he is elusive, he still nails down being a magnifying sound designer & DJ throughout the years. In 2013, and as early as the age of 19, Beato was discovered by L.I.E.S Records and had a successful release ‘Apron EP on Steven Julien’s Apron Records (UK) .
Beato’s production can be described as gritty, noisy, and raw, with straight dance floor hitters. A few personal favorites is his self-released “LOUD” and “Lass Los (Greg Beato Remix)” on Danny Daze’s 2025 OmniDisc release ::BLUE:: (Remixes). An RA review quoted that “Greg Beato's production style can be summed up by a note on one of his 12-inch labels (LIES084):
"WARNING! The glitches in 'Let Em Know' are part of the recording, it's not the pressing."
DAY/DEM is dynamic, intuitive, and creatively restless, quickly becoming a name that resonates far beyond the decks. The electro savant now thrives in the unknown, wielding the power of selection and taste to transform dance floors at venues like Nowadays, Paragon, and Mansions in New York City, continuously molding their creative identity rooted in acid, dub techno, minimal and house. Their emotive presence aligns powerfully with artists they’ve opened for such as GiGi FM (Sea~rène), Dutch techno experimentalist Spekki Webu (Mirror Zone), and Belgian pathfinder Rey Colino (Kalahari Oyster Cult). Their musical palette is further revealed through productions via Compost Discs, Starry Records, and various self-releases. (Words by: Dazion Prosser)
phiphi is a true star in Miami's underground scene. Having played at notorious clubs and parties such as Jolene Sound Room, IIIPoints, Objects Dont Dance, Floyd, Space, and many others, she brings a softness to her production, yet a jolting energy to all of her DJ sets. Having just released her debut single 'heaven sent" with co-production by V1FRO and a a remix by Fayt, this new track has dreamy vocals, catchy melodies, and a familiarity that most will notice instantly. Catching a DJ set from phiphi is a treat, and her ability to create a mood that fits any evening is undeniable.
Perna—founder of the party Candela, and now releasing her latest 500-page book project 'ILLEGAL: Rave Flyers of the 90s' through Blurring Books publishing—is eager to introduce a new dimension to Candela, continuing to center Miami’s sonic identity while embracing a more experimental edge.
