Papa Jack Couch hearkens back to encounters with Gram Parsons and Johnny Cash, but for most of his life his songs had to be put aside in favor of his beloved wife Anne and their three sons, as he struggled as a provider. Then late in life when he found himself alone it was music that came back and gave him purpose, and it was on the legendary Eddie’s Attic open mic stage where he reemerged. As he began again to write and record his songs he was joined by the artists who formed the Standard Electric Band, each of whom has maintained brilliant careers of their own. They’ve now made four albums and played a long string of memorable gigs. After living in Europe for almost three years, as a producer and missionary, he’s returned with renewed perspective and energy, writing and performing with even more appreciation of the value of story and the tolling of time. She’s a classically trained pianist who learned to play guitar at Monday night singin’s in rural Itawamba County. Her witty lyricisms and haunting melodies evoke an exceptional blend of Southern Gothic and confessional folk. Ashley’s voice has been compared to Alison Krauss mixed with the devastating songwriting depth of Patty Griffin. She lives in Lilburn with her husband, kid, and menagerie of pets.
