Description
Nicolaus Gelin is a multi-disciplinary artist and trumpeter based in Los Angeles, born in Miami, Florida, whose work moves fluidly between jazz, contemporary music, and immersive creative worlds. Now a member of the prestigious Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, Nicolaus is part of a new generation of artists redefining the sound and spirit of modern music. Between 2017 and 2020, he received the YoungArts Jazz Trumpet Award, a Phil Knight Award for scoring a short film with Rosie Elliot, and was selected for Carnegie Hall’s NYO Jazz Big Band. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, Nicolaus was mentored by Ingrid Jensen and Jon Faddis, and has since built a reputation as a deeply expressive performer and collaborator.
His work spans genres and platforms, with performances and creative spaces alongside artists such as Isaiah Huron, Kehlani, and Jason Moran, and features on Kabelo Mokhatla’s debut album The Key To Authenticity. Known for his sensitivity, presence, and sonic imagination, Nicolaus brings emotional depth and intention to every project.
Presented by Townhouse Venice.
