*Events at The Casbah are 21+ with a valid ID* A storied underground Los Angeles rock outfit, emerging in 1986 with a sound that blends hard rock swagger and punk rock barbarity, with Americana roots. Born in Montana, raised in Boise; lead singer/guitarist Bryan Small moved to Southern California, soon formed The Hangmen, and quickly caught the eye of Black Flag/Circle Jerks singer Keith Morris who then produced the original demos. The band signed a deal with Capitol Records, and after their self-titled debut release (produced by Vic Maile - The Who/Motorhead), they were quickly dropped; getting caught up in the hair metal feeding frenzy of the late '80s. A brief brush with Geffen Records came and went, eventually leading to the band landing a deal with Acetate Records for the release of 2000’s Metallic I.O.U., celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, in 2025. Now 9 releases on - The Hangmen have aimed true - remaining committed to their steadfast brand of musical honesty and integrity. Through global touring, cult-like recognition, and the creation of purely authentic songs; The Hangmen advance into the amber desert horizon. The Ballad of Pat Todd & the Rankoutsiders... The world ain’t fair; it never has been and it never will be- if it were, Pat Todd & the Rankoutsiders would be household names. I’m sure Pat wouldn’t mind all the fame, money, and glory this world has to offer, and who wouldn't? But it has never been about that for him, and it still isn’t. From his start in the small town of Vincennes, Indiana, in 1970’s up until now, it has always been about making and leaving behind music that is sincere, human, and timeless, and maybe just maybe giving him a chance to live on forever. In my book, he has already achieved that. I rate Pat’s songwriting up there with the greats like Dylan, John Prine, Billy Joe Shaver, and Townes Van Zandt. And I say that because his music has all the same thought-provoking qualities and definitely comes from the same place as the artist mentioned above, you know the place, that mysterious place where all great, sad, and beautiful things in life come from. You know what it feels like when that kind of stuff hits you, but you never seem to be able to find the right words to describe it. Well, Pat Todd finds the right words. The man has no fear about laying his soul bare on every song, and if you have lived any kind of life, even by accident, I’m sure you will hear part of your life story in this man’s music. It's all there, and isn’t it nice to know that you aren’t really out here all alone? Pat Todd & the Rankoutsiders tie together the raw dirt on the floor sincerity of early blues and country music with the full throttle rock n roll power of bands like The Rolling Stones, New York Dolls, Faces, Georgia Satellites, Jason & the Scorchers, and Johnny Thunder’s Heartbreakers while completely remaining their own unique thing. A lot of bands rock, and a lot of really great singer/songwriter music has come out over the years, and with Pat Todd & the Rankoutsiders, you get only the best of both worlds. This music has power, finesse, soul, and depth. There is a lot of hard-earned wisdom in these songs, and they can really stop you dead in your tracks. Even though Pat will tell you he doesn’t have any answers, just like the rest of us, I can't say I agree. This music can give you hope in your darkest hour and make you want to shake your ass all at the same time. This is goddamn life-affirming rock and roll music, and IT WILL STAND!
