For over a decade, Daniel Avery has stood out as one of electronic music’s most forward-thinking voices. Championed early on by mentor Andrew Weatherall as “gimmick free machine funk of the highest order,” Avery broke through with his 2013 debut Drone Logic, now considered a modern classic and the foundation of his long-running partnership with Phantasy Sound. He continued to evolve with Song for Alpha (2018), the emotive double album Love & Light (2020), and collaborative project Illusion of Time with Alessandro Cortini of Nine Inch Nails, alongside the pandemic-era live concept Together In Static. In 2022, Ultra Truth marked a creative peak — a “riled, determined and alive” fever dream featuring collaborators such as Marie Davidson, Kelly Lee Owens and Sherelle — showcasing a decade of experimentation, from searing breakbeats to heartfelt tributes. Avery’s sound now spans ambient, hardcore, techno and instinctive rock sensibilities, feeding into an ambitious live show that has toured globally, while his DJ sets — solo, marathon, or back-to-back with artists like Helena Hauff and DJ Stingray — remain a constant presence in clubs and festivals worldwide. His deep ties to club culture have continued through projects like his Divided Love takeover at fabric and releases for fabric Originals. In 2025, Avery entered a new chapter with Tremor, his sixth studio album, embracing a collaborative, band-like spirit with contributors including Alison Mosshart, Walter Schreifels and yeule. Described as “a living and breathing collective,” the album has inspired his most ambitious live production yet, fusing instrumentation and immersive electronics into a powerful, genre-blurring performance.
