**New Jazz Underground live at Eddie's Attic!**
New Jazz Underground is an American trio hailed by Christian McBride as “one of the hottest new groups in all of jazz right now” at the 2025 Newport Jazz Festival. Composed of Sebastian Rios, Abdias Armenteros, and TJ Reddick, the ensemble has forged a deep brotherhood through music, bringing their sound to audiences across the world.
The three first met as students at The Juilliard School and began performing seriously together during the pandemic lockdown in New York City. They spent countless weeks busking in parks and on street corners, gradually refining a collective voice. A series of viral living-room performances soon followed, organically reaching millions of listeners on YouTube and introducing audiences worldwide to their unique sound.
With releases such as “Dying of Thirst,” “MF Doom Suite,” “Harlem to Havana,” and “cook/swing/work/relax,” New Jazz Underground honors the legacy of jazz while carving a sound unmistakably their own. NPR Music’s Lars Gotrich described them as a group that “pushes at the corners of hard bop and hip-hop,” capturing their boundary-defying aesthetic.
Sebastian Rios, the trio’s artistic leader and creative director, anchors its voice as a bassist, composer, and producer. A longtime student of Ron Carter, Rios built his reputation as a sideman in New York’s underground scene, performing with leading artists such as Emmet Cohen, Etienne Charles, ELEW, Sullivan Fortner, Johnny O’Neal, and Stacy Dillard. He was a YoungArts National Merit Winner, a 2024 ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award recipient, and has been commissioned by Jazz at Lincoln Center and The Juilliard School for his original work.
Abdias Armenteros, the group’s front man, brings a lyrical sound on tenor and soprano saxophones, as well as vocals. He is the youngest member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and holds a master’s degree from Juilliard (MM ’21).
TJ Reddick, praised as one of the most dynamic drummers of his generation, is also a Juilliard graduate (BM ’21). He has performed with luminaries including Chick Corea, Jon Batiste, Wynton Marsalis, and Emmet Cohen, among many others.
New Jazz Underground has appeared at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Birdland, and Jimmy’s Jazz & Blues Club, as well as world-renowned festivals such as Newport, Montreal, Atlanta, and Monterey Jazz Festivals. Most recently, they made their Asian debut in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Their debut album “Hoodies” was released on the artwork record label on May 29th, 2026
Presented by Eddie's Attic.
This is an all ages event.
