John Bishop is one the UK’s biggest names in comedy. Within three years of his first ever gig, John was playing sold-out arena audiences across the country, and released the fastest selling stand-up DVD in UK history.
He has achieved huge success with a number of his own comedy, entertainment and documentary shows including ‘John Bishop’s Australia’ (BBC1), ‘John Bishop’s Britain’ (BBC1), ‘John Bishop’s Only Joking’ (Sky1), ‘The John Bishop Show’ (BBC1), ‘The John Bishop Christmas Show’ (BBC1), ‘John Bishop’s Gorilla Adventure’, filmed in Rwanda for ITV1 and most recently ‘John Bishop’s Ireland’ (ITV1).
Other TV work includes John’s one-off special for Sport Relief, ‘John Bishop’s Week Of Hell’ (BBC1), a stint as team captain on Sky One’s ‘A League of their Own’ (Sky1), and his guest appearances on ‘Live at the Apollo’ (BBC1). Shortly before this, John took the reins as director and star of his own comedy drama for Sky One’s ‘Little Crackers’ season. Adding another string to his bow as a dramatic actor, John worked with director Ken Loach in thriller ‘Route Irish’ and Jimmy McGovern’s critically acclaimed ‘Accused’.
2013 saw John publish his best-selling autobiography, ‘How Did All This Happen?’, in the same year, he completed a triathlon challenge in aid of Sport Relief, raising over £1.6million for the charity.
John has performed numerous sell out stand-up UK arena tours. His first was and ‘Elvis Has Left The Building’ show in 2010, followed by the ‘Sunshine Tour’ in 2011. John’s 2012 ‘Rollercoaster’ was another sell out and received huge critical acclaim. His 2015 tour, ‘Supersonic’, was watched by more than 500,000 people. This show was subsequently recorded for DVD release at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
In 2016 John embarked on something completely different – the W Channel commissioned him to present a new one-to-one interview series, John Bishop: In Conversation With... The show sees John chatting with some of the biggest names from the world of entertainment, sport and music. The first episode saw over 1.6million people enjoy John’s compelling conversation with James Corden. Subsequent guests have included Steve Coogan, Lindsay Lohan, Anna Friel, Sir Lenny Henry, Freddie Flintoff and Russell Brand.
In early 2017, John made a return to acting. He co-starred in ITV1’s Fearless, starring Sir Michael Gambon and Helen McCrory. The six part drama series was written by Homeland writer Patrick Harbinson and produced by Mammoth Screen (credits include Poldark and Victoria).
In August, John took In Conversation With…to the Edinburgh Festival, broadcasting the series exclusively on Facebook Live from the heart of the city. Guests included Irvine Welsh, Judy Murray, Jason Manford, Alex Salmond and Nish Kumar.
