Description
Spurge:
DJ and musician, Spurge deejays in a dialectical fashion - weaving opposing elements together to construct a singular, narrative experience - honoring the practice of storytelling through selection in tandem with the sport-like aspects of DJing. His style of mixing audaciously blends genre - jumping from dancehall to rock, techno, electro, disco, house, to dub, hip hop, ambient...all in service of the story of the set.
Spurge’s musical voice is bolstered by a decade in New York nightlife. He’s played at institutions like Good Room, Bossa Nova Civic Club, Public Records, Nowadays, and has been involved in projects such as The Lot Radio, Sustain-Release, Resident Advisor and his own imprint label Eto Ano. Most recently, he toured Asia and played Dweller Festival.
Archetype:
“The rhythmic maven known as Archetype (aka Charles Noel, CN2, Fuzzy Logic, etc...) has made a startlingly unique imprint on the landscape of midwestern electronic music and beyond since he first began releasing music in the mid 90s. Through the ele_mental collective he helped found with Titonton Duvante, Todd Sines, Ed Luna + many others, they helped push a forward thinking vision for what parties in Columbus and the midwest could be like.” (Kiernan Laveaux) “He’s toured worldwide from North America to Europe and Japan, including after-hours performances for the Detroit Electronic Music Festival with Akufen and Orlando Voorn and the SONAR festival in Barcelona, appearing alongside Jeff Mills, Aphex Twin, Richard Divine, Matmos and John Peel. He toured Japan with Fumiya Tanaka and label mate Ricardo Villaobos, where he headlined at the world-famous Liquid Room in Tokyo.” (SAE Institue)
Zi!:
Zi! is a Montreal underground behind the queer collective Flush and Missed Connections mix series. Zi!’s dub-rooted percussive, breaky sound has weaved its way through diverse spaces internationally, such as Sustain-Release, Honcho, Animalia, and more recently Dripping.
Ade Kassim:
Ade Kassim is a New York-based DJ, producer with credentials including sets at Nowadays, Unter, Basement, Good Room and more. He also runs EFM, a monthly radio show on the Lot Radio, and an expression of “a deep love for the technology behind what we hear, the processes, and the techniques that get us there.”
Bookworms:
“One of NYC’s most curious, fwd mutants Nik Dawson aka Bookworms weaves ancestral rhythms and tempered modular tonalities…an Escher-like labyrinth of torched sound design and bleary-eyed isolationist experiments that are both Psychedelic and complex but never impenetrable, digesting like an extended-release blotter for fans of Autechre at their most confounding, Terrence Dixon's mindbending sci-fi neural networks and Arca's melted elastic post-everything soundscraping. There's a poetry to Dawson's touch that makes [his] music more involving than so much contemporary electronic-experimental scribbling. At any moment it feels as if it could shatter into a million pieces or disappear into a terrifying, unspeakable nth dimension. It's the Ursula K. Le Guin or Octavia E. Butler of abstract electronics, shepherding the mind thru sonic-spiritual forests, deserts and cityscapes with anxious intrigue, signing off with a knotted concentration of positively futurist energies. - Boomkat (edited from their description of Bookworms’ 2021 release titled ‘Alternative Group’)
echo:
echo is a DJ and producer based in Brooklyn. His evocative sets aim to expand the audience's conception of music through sculptural mixing that blends disparate genres and connects past, present, and future.
