Sunday Jazz Sessions begins at Airport Tavern Music Hall with the first installment of a new once-a-month residency from Rich Wetzel’s Groovin’ Higher Orchestra on Sunday, June 7th.
Led by acclaimed trumpeter Rich Wetzel, the orchestra brings a bold, high-energy mix of big band jazz, jazz-rock fusion, and groove-driven arrangements to the stage. Known for its powerhouse horn section, standout musicianship, and dynamic live performance, Groovin’ Higher Orchestra delivers the kind of show built for both serious jazz lovers and anyone looking to spend their Sunday with great live music.
This opening night sets out to establish Sunday Jazz Sessions as a recurring monthly tradition—one Sunday each month dedicated to live jazz at Airport Tavern Music Hall. It’s a chance to build something consistent for Tacoma’s music community: a room full of players, listeners, and timeless sounds coming together on a regular basis.
Whether you’re coming for the band, the atmosphere, or to be part of the start of a new tradition, this is where it begins.
