The hammer falls: Perc returns to BASEMENT. One of the pioneers of the modern, hard-edged sound that has become synonymous with techno, Perc remains as influential as he is unique. While his own Perc Trax label has become a hub for artful destruction, Perc himself remains a moving target. Of course, he’s always capable of delivering a searing banger of the highest order. But, as his recent “Microtrax” EP shows, his range doesn’t require him to live completely in the red. While others opt for flashy stunts and pure impact, Perc’s music consistently shows a more nuanced, intriguing point of view that cannot be pigeonholed. Creams and Markus present a special b2b. Both artists are close to the club, making this a significant meeting of the minds. Each artist comes loaded with a musical CV that stretches genres and comes at club music with an incisive rigor and subversive energy. This set will see them summoning the full power, hitting hard with a mix of rugged techno and a dose of electro, Prepare yourself for chaos. Elle Dee balances out the night with a simmering poise. One of the most potent techno selectors in NYC today, Elle Dee fuses twisting hypnotic loop techno with moments of bombastic release.
Ouissam headlines STUDIO. The French-born, Vietnam-based artist is the founder of the Cliche and Fragrant Harbor labels, the Hanoi club Savage and its Snug party series as well as the Equation festival. A major proponent of modern, bouncy italo/disco/club hybrid, Ouissam is a modern heir to decades of shimmering, synthy dance music. He makes his debut for this very special night. The Carry Nation joins him. The duo of Will Automagic and Nita Aviance possess a preternatural command of house music, finding an infinity of expressiveness within its seemingly-simple genre constraints. As ambassadors to NY’s rich history of queer clubbing, we couldn’t ask for better representatives. The Carry Nation embodies dance music at its communal best. Toronto’s Karim Olen Ash completes the lineup. The organizer behind the Pep Rally party series taps a deep wellspring of pure joy, calling back to the euphoric highs that made disco and foundational house so revolutionary.
