Description
Chicago underground icon and powerhouse, Flores Negras, brings a raw, driving and sensual sound everywhere she plays.
Tejano bred and Chicago raised, Flores draws inspiration from her cultural roots. Her style, clearly influenced by her background, showcases the diverse palate and rich cultures of house and techno music.
Her musical journey began early, a result of growing up with rocker goth parents. She was raised on old school metal, cumbia, post punk, 80s synth and club music. At the young age of 12, she picked up her first guitar. Later in life, perhaps inevitably, she found her self deeply involved in the DIY punk, metal and experimental music scene, where she performed and wrote music with various metal and shoegaze bands.
Flores has long been a defining force in the city’s nightlife, most exemplified by role as the mother of MICTLĀN Productions, an underground music collective. Through her dozens of parties, she has made her name by producing immersive experiences in various locales across the city.
Flores Negras unique capability of blending sounds of grooving dark techno, mechanical, tribal, sexy house and bits of film quotes into sets has earned her a loyal cult following. Her sound is sexy, punk, hypnotic and driven by an unapologetic feminine force. She is strongly inspired by strip clubs, heavy metal, horror films, club kid culture and old school punk. Exhibiting sounds of Chicago brutalists & industrial scene scapes, Flores embraces the essence of the warehouse.
With these rich influences woven through her performances, she repeatedly creates soundtracks for the dance floor.
The city has heard and loved these soundtracks, meaning Flores Negras has played alongside a variety of incredible artists in various settings. Her electrifying and fierce presence has been felt across dance floors around the country. With cult fan groups from the Midwest to south Texas & LA.
She has performed with the legendary founders of techno and ghetto house like DJ Slugo and Kevin Saunderson of the Belleville Three. She has played in the Chicago House Music Festival, historic venues like Thalia Hall, Smartbar and Spybar, as well as being featured in Elevator Music and playing with emergent and defining artists like Amelie Lens, Indira Paganota, Klangkuenstler, and Lindsey Herbert. Undoubtedly, given her fierce and persistent presence, Flores Negras will continue to contribute to the current and future sound of Chicago’s nightlife.
