Description
Austin recording studio and sound company, Driftwork Sound is proud to announce the forthcoming release of “Voices of Austin,” a full-length album featuring Austin-based musicians who have immigrated here from various corners of the world to showcase their diverse talent and musical influences from their home countries, officially dropping Friday, May 29. Each of the eight tracks on the album features Austin musicians from countries in Central and South America, Africa, and the Middle East, coming together to showcase the talents, musical textures, and perspectives that are unique to immigrant artists and to create a sound that is uniquely Austin. The “Voices of Austin” vinyl album release show will now take place at Sagebrush (located at 5500 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78745) on Sunday, May 31 featuring performances from Superfónicos, Continental Drift, Indimaj, and Los Desechos feat. members of Plan Sonidero. There will be vinyl and CDs of the album available for purchase. Tickets to the show will be available soon.
“I’ve thought for a while that it is time for the U.S. to fall in love with the rest of the world … this album is definitely an important step in that direction,” said Jaime Ospina of Superfónicos.
The album was recorded and mixed by Driftwork Sound Founder, Producer, Engineer, Composer and Musician David Dalton at his Austin recording studio, Driftwork Sound, in late 2025. Genres featured on the album include Cumbia, Original Afrobeat, and Palestinian / Arabic Saba, with Afro-Latin grooves and psychedelia woven throughout the album. Some of the key players featured on the album include Jaime Ospina from Superfónicos, Sari Andoni from Viva Palestina and Indimaj, Ibrahim Aminou from Zoumountchi, Aicha Wambaya, and many other talented musicians who play with various projects around Austin. “Voices of Austin” was created with funding support provided by the City of Austin's Austin Live Music Fund. More exclusive interviews with the artists featured on the album as well as music videos for some of the tracks will be released in May.
“Immigrants breathe life into this city in ways that none of us can fully appreciate”, said album producer David Dalton. “Voices of Austin showcases just a sliver of the incredible talent these artists share with us every day."
