**ESENCIAL WITH SPECIAL GUEST RMZI (MEMPHIS/NYC)**
rmzi (he/him) is an Afrofuturist and technologist from Memphis, TN. He focuses on collecting sounds from his childhood (Ethiopian folk songs, Arabic ballads, Funk and Soul from the delta) and blends them with references and callbacks from more modern forms of music (Footwork, Jungle, Garage and House). He also produces digital experiences using the web as a medium, focusing on music generation, archivism and interactivity generally.
This month’s event will highlight the intersection of Ethiopian and Latin culture through music - starting with the birth of Ethio-Jazz. A genre born from combining elements of western jazz, afro-latin rhythms and traditional Ethiopian music.
**About Esencial:**
Esencial is Nashville’s community dance party for Latin music and other inspired sounds. Spearheaded by Stephany Medina and Charly Ortiz, Esencial began as a gathering of friends who wanted to build a space rooted in nostalgia while bringing a modern sound to the dance floor. Alongside percussionists Euge Sosa Barboza and Jimmy Lopez, the four collectively bring Esencial to life as a high-energy, culturally grounded experience.
In the last year, Esencial has become a go-to space for music that bridges generations and cultures, uniting people through the sounds that raised us and that continue to shape the future of Latin dance music.
