Description
Since BASEMENT’s founding, there has been a spiritual kinship with Tbilisi’s Bassiani. One of the great clubs in the modern global underground, Bassiani exemplifies the ethos of techno in a way few institutions can match. So it's no surprise that Newa, one of Tbilisi’s finest artists, is a resident of both BASEMENT and Bassiani. In Newa’s hands, techno reaches its full, mercurial potential. Capturing both the futuristic rush and the alluring depth that make it such an enduring genre, Newa hits you with a sensual physicality and a captivating mystery. Kancheli is a kindred spirit. Like Newa, the Georgian producer takes you deep into the shadow realm. His original productions and DJ sets throb with elemental power and writhe with organic fluidity. Carefully balancing restraint and untempered blowouts, Kancheli’s music touches on the infinite. He teams up with a special b2b alongside 98dots, a fellow Georgian who has set up shop in NYC. On his monthly radio show Rapture Investigation, 98dots evokes the mystical and the mutant in equal measure. Moving between swimming, chugging rhythms and motor revving intensity, 98dots’ sets cover a wide span of psychedelic club sounds. BASEMENT resident LYDO matches the expansive musicality and rigor of the rest of the lineup. One of NY’s very best, LYDO has achieved a well-deserved global profile over the last few years. The X-TRA.Services founder captures an elusive high, somewhere between cerebral brain dance and full on physicality.
DJ Minx takes the lead in STUDIO. Detroit’s “First Lady of Wax” has decades of ceaseless involvement in house music under her belt, having first experienced modern dance music at the landmark Music Institute in her hometown during its late ‘80s heyday. In her own productions, which include the bonafide hit “A Walk In The Park,” she exemplifies the mercurial, hypnotic craftiness that is indelibly associated with Detroit. Now rounding out her fourth decade behind the decks, Minx’s artistry is stronger than ever. One of the true luminaries of American house music in the 21st century, Jason Kendig has been making his mark for over twenty years. As a founding member of Honey Soundsystem, Kendig helped to revitalize and revolutionize queer clubbing in the States. And as a DJ, he elevates the form with both his deep digging and masterful technique. Kendig is one of those artists who was born to DJ. Kilopatrah Jones brings the soul. They have been steadily gaining more and more recognition for their explosive interpretation of classic house, r&b and more. In their own words, their sets are “horny, sexy, flirty - everything I want to hear while I'm on the dance floor: sweaty, panting and free.”
