Description
Research & Development Presents Mozhgan (San Francisco), May 29th at Podlasie Club with Rabsha and Shanti for a mind-bending night of converging and diverging soundscapes.
*Tickets sold at the door
1) Mozhgan was born in Iran but found her artistic sanctuary in California. In 2011 Mozhgan co-created "We Are Monsters" with Jason Greer. This visionary party experience became an escape from the mundane. Mozhgan and Jason, later joined by Solar, played a diverse array of sounds and created a space without the boundaries of genre and expectation.
Mozhgan is known for her captivating dark sound infused with percussive psychedelia. She has toured worldwide for the past 10 years and played at venues like Panorama Bar and De School, among others and become an anticipated regular at US festivals and parties like No Way Back and Sunset Campout.
2) Rabsha is a dj and live act project by Hussain Alawami. Based in Chicago, he draws from his experiences on dance floors around the Midwest to guide his approach to playing music. Rabsha blends psychedelic techno and bass music into atmospheric soundscapes traversing the edge between dystopian wastelands and ethereal dreamworlds.
3) Shanti has made textured waves in Chicago’s techno scene with her curation of dark, sinister, and ethereal soundscapes. Music has always been a means of coping with the otherness and hybridity Shanti experienced throughout her life. She has been deeply moved by the transcendent ability of music to express concepts, states of consciousness, and conflicting emotions. Shanti’s sets weave a story of the simultaneous despair and yearning that are intertwined with the human condition and illustrate an intentional trajectory through combining and cultivating surreal, atmospheric, and haunting sounds.
Enamored by the liminal dynamics of sound, Shanti cohosts Otherworldly Ambiguity with Scum.ee - an experience that is centered around the phenomenon of existing in between and outside of pre-existing concepts and rigid categories. She hosts a monthly radio show, “Liminal Radio” on WIIT 88.9 FM featuring thoughtful artists at the core of Chicago’s underground music scene.
