Description
The second night of our anniversary weekend is a massive blowout with the most artists in a single lineup in the history of the club. Following Friday’s initial blowout, we continue to celebrate seven years of growth and evolution, from a one-room, techno-only club into our current formation with STUDIO, a cast of incredible residents and so much more. First things first: BASEMENT invites techno honcho Boris back into the room. One of genre’s definitive voices, Boris has been a key driver of modern techno. What sets him apart is his unwavering artistic integrity and genuine interest in what’s happening now. Boris remains as vital as ever, epitomizing the best of techno at every turn. Juliana Huxtable’s worldbuilding and innovative sense of experimentation are peerless. A hero of NY’s underground, Huxtable is a true multidisciplinary artist who also stands as a modern master DJ. Sol Ortega joins the lineup, making the long flight from Argentina. Ortega’s pumped up, glistening techno embraces the best of the old school: rock solid grooves, acidic meltdowns and timeless synths. Mos steps back into the booth. One of the best of the next generation, Mos’ command of granite-thick techno is beyond reproach. Over the past couple years, he has emerged as a force to be reckoned with. Altær founder Auspex goes head-to-head with cotton. Two of the city’s most intense and potent DJs, this is a meeting of the minds of epic proportions. Finally, Concrete Husband’s mastery of both sublime beauty and libidinous intensity makes him one of the most singular artists in NY today. One minute, he’s writing stunning modern composition, the next crafting some of the most thundering techno out there today.
Sedef Adasï leads a who’s who in STUDIO. Adasï is, of course, the Turkish-born phenom. Her genre-agnostic sets straddle the line between classic and futuristic, bombastic and mysterious, always stitched together with intuitive grace. And of course Adasï’s HAMAM Nights has become one of the most respected series in dance music today, bringing together an international community of artists whose work breaks the mold. Gabrielle Kwarteng embodies house like few others today. NY-born, Berlin-based, Kwarteng’s sets hit with an immediacy that cannot be faked. In her hands, house is both raw and refined, moving with equal parts urgency and sensual poise. Jason Kendig is a name that will be familiar to anyone who has spent any time in STUDIO. One of the room’s most regular bookings, Kendig brings a pop of color and a dose of sentimentality to the dance floor. The man is a national treasure. Makadsi fogs all lenses with a dose of steamy, modern house. A regular in STUDIO, the Function organizer is a lynchpin of the modern queer underground. Kilopatrah Jones serves up some always-needed soul. Jones is a DJ whose buoyant sets invariably deliver a dose of unfettered joy to any room she’s in. Sterling Juan Diaz has become an inescapable presence in NY’s lifetime. And thankfully so, because he is a world class DJ. Blending his Dominican Republic roots with raw club sounds from across the spectrum, Diaz’s vital energy never falters.
