This April, Volvox headlines Wrecked. A New York institution unto herself, Volvox delivers “the real sound of the underground” like few others. She is a DJ defined by her righteous impunity and captivating charisma; Volvox can do more with a single track selection than many DJs do in an entire set. Her ceaseless movement and powerful artistry is matched only by her community organizing - Volvox has helmed some of the city’s most vibrant nights, including Jack Dept. and her current FLINTA party series. Day Thief returns to Wrecked for the third time. The Ever Afters Campout co-organizer has established herself as a paragon of the DIY, queer rave subculture that has blossomed across the country over the last decade. Though typically leaning towards housier territory, Day Thief’s techno excursions at Wrecked have become something of a tradition. Strap in. Resident Ryan Smith keeps the freak flag flying high. No matter the genre modality, Smith infuses his sets with luscious textures and an intuitive, corporeal flow.
Abajour returns to Wrecked after a few years away. The duo - two brothers - are mainstays in Paris, where their [BP] party series was a vital force in shaping the queer electronic community. Their 10+ hour closing b2bs at Cocktail d’Amore are the stuff of legend, marked by expansiveness and quality above all else. Abajour puts it best themselves: “It's nothing short of an anthology of house music, distilled to its most groovy and entrancing form.” That description could equally apply to Ron Like Hell, an artist whose defining characteristics might as well be “groovy and entrancing.” Whether gliding through the stratosphere or slithering through the sewers, Ron Like Hell keeps a ragged punk edginess in the mix at all times. Their STUDIO appearances are inevitable sweatboxes, bringing out a primeval passion on the dancefloor.
