Jeff Chilton is Jay Si and the Proof is in the pudding. Jeff Chilton should have become a high school band director after graduating from Ithaca College in upstate NY. Instead he took an Amtrak train to Portland, OR with naught but a trombone at his side and an acoustic guitar on his back. The soggy jazz soaked dirt of Portland proved creatively fertile and after meeting fellow artists Corey Heppner, Lucas James, and JD Erickson, Chilton took on the moniker Jay Si and created the musical organism Jay Si Proof. Bringing their “silly and euphoric vibe” (Portland Mercury) up and down the west coast. Jay Si Proof is described as "earth jazz alchemists" by Vortex Magazine and has been featured twice on PDX Pop Now, ranked in the Mercury's top music videos of 2024, and performed at countless PNW music festivals. Chilton has become a veteran of the music industry, touring the world aboard Royal Caribbean ships, performing with Broken Social Scene's Pickathon performance, and adding his horn to Motown legends The Diamonds and The Platters. This six piece funk band has horns that knock down the door and percussion-laden grooves that are the perfect accompaniment to any dance party. Alongside Jordan Vale on keys, trumpet and vocals, Mr. Vale’s Math Class includes musicians Nick Hamel on guitar, Milo Fultz on bass, James Ford on drums, David Burrows on Auxiliary Percussion and , Lhanna Writesal on saxophone along with a rotating cast of dynamic guest musicians. Mr. Vale's Math Class seeks to evoke curiosity and create moments of play. Through our songwriting we explore anxiety and complex emotions, hoping to normalize the absurdity of being human and invite listeners to move their bodies, laugh, shout, and take life a little less seriously. Our songs may bring a listener back to their formative school days and the emotions they experienced as they learned about math and maybe felt overwhelmed by the demand for right answers.
