Description
technowruz returns for its eighth New Years celebration. Under the shadow of the escalating war on Iran and the ongoing internet blackouts, we're shifting from our usual club night to a music-focused community gathering, a place to be together in the sound as we move through however we’re feeling. Proceeds will be distributed on the ground in Iran through trusted community networks.
The night opens with a hardware set from Googoosh Dolls, followed by a hybrid set from 8ULENTINA and DJ sets from Hamadi, Arushi Jain, and Kamran Sadeghi. Their sets will lean toward ambient, atmospheric, and traditional music, creating a space to meditate, talk, move gently, and connect in ambient solidarity. Instead of our customary diaspora bazaar, the bar will host a community-sourced art installation that offers space to reflect on the resilience of the Iranian people in the face of extreme repression. As always, there will be ample snacks, sweets, and tea, plus lots of comfortable places to sit, craft supplies, and tabling from local organizations.
A 3,000-year-old tradition, Nowruz ushers in a season of rebirth. It is celebrated on the spring equinox by over 300 million people worldwide, including ethnic groups across present-day Afghanistan, Iran, Kurdistan, Turkmenistan, and elsewhere. Transcending borders and cultures, often in defiance of state proscription, observance of Nowruz is an expression of hope and renewal after a long, dark winter.
