Description
Nick The Records (London) and Soulfunky at Monarch - it's going to be a groovy time!
Nick The Record has been a key proponent in the underground music scene for the past 3 decades, performing unmissable DJ sets, releasing records and selling rare vinyl to the stars. His early opportunites behind the decks came in the early 1990s Free party / Warehouse party scene in London & in many a field around the UK.
While his early DJ career really took off in Japan, Nick has spent last decade spreading his music closer to home. His performances are a firm fixture in London’s musical calendar, with Nick running ‘Tangent’, a regular party with John Gomez since 2014, in which the two selectors dig deep into their collections, playing everything from Afro-Disco and sun-kissed tropical rarities to Soul & electronic gems.
With solid foundations in the East and the West, Nick has played at some of the most important festivals across the globe, including Kala in Albania, Love international & Dekmantel Selectors in Croatia, Sunset Campout in California, Wonderfruit in Thailand, Worldwide Festival in Sete, Houghton, Rotation, We Out
Here & We Are Love in the UK. In 2025 Nick curated the Disco Ger stage at Playtime Festival in Mongolia. Nick has also played many of Europe’s best clubs & parties. Nick recently ended a 6 year monthly Residency at Jazz Cafe’s Saturday night club night Soul City.
While he’s well known for his mesmerising vinyl selections, Nick also keeps things fresh with a USB full. of exclusive & unreleased edits to light up the dancefloor. Following the summer of love in 1988, Nick began playing at underground parties in London’s thriving warehouse scene and outside ‘Free Parties’.
Following this, in 1993 Nick’s love affair with Japan began, when he formed the ground-breaking party, Lifeforce. A DJ who has played in all corners of Japan, Nick’s stock continued to grow when he was resident at Taico club’s open air festival, now named FFKT, for 15 years, where he was lauded for his extended Sunday morning closing sets. Aside from DJing, Nick has released his own music throughout
the years, from collaborations with the likes of Tim Hutton to create the canonic Fela Kuti homage, ‘Tribute’, which became an anthem at legendary NYC club nights Shelter and Body & Soul (sometimes getting played three times per night) to hookups with the late, great Tony Allen and a string of releases on his label ‘Record Mission’ as well as Nuphonic, Ene & 20/20 Vision. Nick has recently added another tab
to his busy calendar with the launch of a label ‘Natural House’, an imprint created to showcase new material & Remixes. His 2022 release ‘I Appreciate’, in collaboration with Jaime Read, received high praise and plays from the likes Antal, MCDE, Francois K, Palms Trax, Gilles Peterson, Colleen Cosmo
Murphy. More recently in 2024, Nick along with John Gomez release their ‘10 Years of Tangent’ LP on the revered Mr Bongo imprint. As well as their long-standing residency at Pickle Factory, Nick and John have brought this special and often extended performance to the likes of Giant Steps, Houghton Festival,
Love International and We Out Here. When he’s not touring or in the studio, Nick is a go-to record dealer for the underground community, supplying the world’s DJ’s with rare Soul, Funk, Jazz, Disco, Boogie and
Hip Hop on the DJ’s format, the 12 Inch single. This has led Nick to acquire an extensive record
collection, and one of the most coveted collections of rare 12 Inches in the UK. As one of the world’s
most respected diggers, Nick The Record’s sets are always special, and never to be missed.
