Don't miss award-winning songwriter Ruby Gill as she farewells a stunning, rambling world tour for Some Kind of Control on Dec 11 - while also welcoming her long-awaited first poetry book I'm not exaggerating when I say. This special once-off show will feature poetry readings, special guests, a full band record celebration and Lotus Web and Annie-Rose Maloney on support. A rare night not to be forgotten!
MORE ABOUT RUBY GILL
Ruby's recent anthemic, choir-laced, poetic epic LP features Angie McMahon, Hannah Cameron and more, and is, in Gill’s words, “looser, gayer, and even more raw.” The Joburg-born, Naarm-based artist's tour has lit up packed rooms with these ten body-focused, politically rich, and deeply intimate songs across Australia, Aotearoa/NZ, Europe and more in 2025, performing in the country’s finest venues alongside some of our most exciting artists. Now, she’s back with one final celebration of the record in full—don’t miss one last chance to catch it live.
Widely adored for her ability to stun a room into pin-drop silence or bring even the most cynical to tears, Ruby Gill has been turning heads with her honest, witty, moving offerings, with two Australian Music Prize nominations (plus shortlisted this year! ), Best Folk Work nom at the Music Victoria Awards, Sunday Times' coveted 'Breaking Act,' Emerging Artist of the Year at Port Fairy Folk Festival and more. Her highly-anticipated Some Kind Of Control LP debuted on the ARIA charts at #26 in Aus Albums and #5 in Aus Country (Ruby thinks this is a bit random, but she'll take it), garnering Double J's Feature Album, FAR OUT's Album of the Week, Rolling Stone's Best New Australian Music and charting radio support across the US, UK and Australia.
As she farewells this success, Ruby is also welcoming her first poetry book - a deeply intimate, absurd and revelatory exploration of queerness, migration, sex, grief and roadkill. This show will feature readings of the poems and exclusive access to the first physical copies.
MORE ABOUT LOTUS WEB
lotus web is a poetry/sound project featuring double bassist John Szetho, harpist/multi-instrumentalist Genevieve Fry, flautist Jack Whu, guzheng player/vocalist Hannah Wu and poet Panda Wong. Improvisation, collaboration and friendship are central to lotus web's practice and performances.
MORE ABOUT ANNIE-ROSE MALONEY
Annie-Rose Maloney writes country-ish music about the deep kernels of pain we all carry around in our pockets. Fast becoming a favourite in the alt-folk worlds, Annie-Rose Maloney has already supported the likes of Andy Shauf, Angel Olsen, Hurray for the Riff Raff and Angie McMahon. Annie-Rose has a simple ethos when it comes to writing a song. It must have a pulse, it must feel nice to sing, and it must bear a truthfulness about our human experiences. Her assured presence holds the audience gently as they move through moments of heartbreak, loneliness and elation.
