Description
Some wounds take an eternity to heal. Yet, if there is any solace in losing a musician who helped soundtrack our lives, not even death can rob us of the music. If you're like us and are still coming to terms with the passing of the legend that was D'Angelo, may The R&B Club's final event of 2025 be a small slice of therapy.
This is not just a celebration of the music the Virginia icon gave us. It's paying direct homage to the man born Michael Eugene Archer. Bring your love, and please, please, please bring your memories, because there's no way the man who gave us Brown Sugar, Voodoo, Black Messiah, and so many incredible features, live performances, and collaborations didn't leave that type of mark. It's going to be a choir rehearsal when we play "Lady." We'll all take a trip back to 1998 the moment "Nothing Even Matters" with Lauryn Hill drops. And we all may drop a tear when listening to the angelic melodies of "I Found My Smile Again" or "Send It On." The most important thing is we'll all be together.
As always, you know where to find us. But if you don't, join us at Songbyrd on Sunday, December 14, from 12-2 (don't be surprised if this runs a little longer). Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. We all need this moment to celebrate a legend. And that's why we can't wait to see you as we close out the year in what'll damn sure be one of the most emotionally-charged events The R&B Club has ever put on.

The R&B Club is a cultural gathering founded in 2018 that discusses the influence of R&B music. In other words, think of it as a musical book club-style meetup. Follow us on social media at @therandbclubdc for more information.
