Chicago's Mute Duo is Skyler Rowe (drums/percussion) and Sam Wagster (pedal steel). Building on simple, composed melodies, Mute Duo explores an atmosphere ranging from sparse chimes to pummeling drone with a free, rhythmic fluidity, and minimal electronic textures. Their second LP, ‘Lapse in Passage,’ was released by American Dreams Records in 2020, followed by ‘Migrant Flocks’ which came out in the spring of 2023. The duo frequently plays with special guests and recently released the cassette,’5amSky,’ (featuring a live collaboration with Matthew Lux, Andrew Scott Young, and Chelsea Bridge) on Astral Editions. In the summer of 2024, the Duo opened for REZN on an extensive three week West Coast tour.
Stephen Holliger is an Illinois-based sound artist and performer known for his project Swim Ignorant Fire, blending looped guitar, field recordings, and textural drones into deeply emotional soundscapes. His upcoming solo tour supports the release of Fives and Sixes on Room40 (Australia) — a record that weaves family archive tapes, memory, and loss into meditative ambient compositions. Whether solo or with Swim Ignorant Fire’s evolving ensemble, Holliger’s music explores grief, ritual, and renewal with raw honesty and patience. Longtime collaborator Nate Hahn will be joining this date on pedal steel guitar.
ragenap+dathon is the collaborative project of Joel Berk (ragenap) and Corey Lyons (dathon). Together, they weave meditative, intricate and immersive soundscapes that explore the outer reaches of drone, minimalism, and free improvisation. Each set is a unique journey, building on a foundation of coiled points and harmonic textures before pushing towards the dark star.
