About Ras Jem
Facebook | Instagram | YouTube | Spotify | Apple Music
Ras Jem’s destiny as reggae royalty was written before he even walked the earth. Jem’s mother, a talented vocalist in her own right, performed as a backup singer for some of the best roots reggae artists to ever grace a stage. One of those artists was Dennis Emmanuel Brown, who had also developed a close friendship with Jem’s father through the Rastafarian movement. As a member of Twelve Tribes of Israel, Jem’s dad became friends with reggae greats like Sugar Minott and “The King of Reggae,” Robert Nesta Marley. Dennis Brown found out the pair were
expecting, and suggested that the baby carry on his middle name, christening the child Josiah Emmanuel McLaren. Ras Jem’s music exudes experience and maturity.
Raised on reggae and Rastafari from day one, for over 20 years he has been developing his unique approach to music. During that time, he has opened up for premier artists like I-Octane, Pressure Busspipe, Sizzla, Capleton, Stephen Marley, Beres Hammond, and Shaggy. He contributed powerful songs to jugglings like Black Moon, World Traveller, and Skyway for the JAH T JR label. This year he released his debut EP Royalty. The lead single Royalty serves as the title track for the project, as well as an apt description of Ras Jem’s reggae birthright. He is certain to claim that birthright in due time, and the Royalty EP is proving to be next major step on the journey to his throne.
