Darker Than Wax and Eto Ano, in the spirit of autumnal congregation, are taking over Good Room this Thanksgiving Eve…and everybody’s going to EAT! Continuing a loose tradition of jocund holiday eve parties (Ayesha on MLK Day, DJ Swisha on Memorial Day), we’ve invited dj cowriiie, aka KeiyaA, and Signature Cuts (the trio of tinasnow, Guarionex Jr., and D’Sean) for this round of festivities. Chicago-born singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer KeiyaA has been a breakout R&B star since the release of her brilliant 2020 record, ‘Forever, Ya Girl.’ Her sophomore album ‘hooke’s law’, which was released on XL Recordings last month, “folds her club influences into a story of grief that's as moving as it is fun”. Earlier this year, KeiyaA released another project titled ‘midnight EP’, under her moniker dj cowriiie, that, alongside a monthly Lot Radio residency, is a direct statement of her love for club music, particularly Chicago’s own footwork genre. As dj cowriiie, KeiyaA’s knack for groove, daring musical choices, and referencing of regional music that make up the musical diaspora is assuredly showcased. Over in the Bad Room, we have local vinyl heroes Signature Cuts in B3B mode all night. The trio, Guarionex Jr, D’Sean, and tinasnow, are interdisciplinary artists based in Brooklyn, but together they collect and play records for rhythm devotees alike. Over the last year, this all-vinyl crew has been cutting their teeth throwing a bumping monthly night at Rodeo in Crown Heights and “exploring ’90s and ’00s house, left field house and techno for music lovers to get lost in the (heart)beats.” Label heads Spurge and Marco Weibel round out the lineup in the Good Room. Individually, Marco is “DJ’s DJ, trusted by many” (DJ Mag) and co-runs Singaporean/NY-based label Darker Than Wax, while Spurge splits his brain between his rock-oriented project, Aliese, and pumping out his electronic urges through his imprint Eto Ano, culminating in being recognized as “one of New York’s most talented and multi-faceted artists and producers” (Resident Advisor) Collectively, as long time contributors to the NYC underground music scene, they create an expansive musical venn diagram that manifests in their friendship and party series, informally known as “Guestlist Goes to Dancers”, (more formally known as “DTW x Eto Ano”) which focuses less on genre and more on the dancer to DJ relationship as a bedrock of the party experience. The party supports this ethos by reserving guest list for dancers who show up at the beginning of the night and dedicatedly work to steer the arc of the night alongside what Spurge, Marco, and their guests do musically.
