Description
For the sole club night of their 2025 NY edition, Unsound once again teams up with Dripping for a Thursday night takeover at Nowadays.
Mica Levi headlines with a special DJ set. The UK composer is one of the truly singular voices of our time. From their skewed, inimitable pop works of Micachu & The Shapes aka Good Bad Happy Sad to their film scores for "Under The Skin," "The Zone of Interest" and "Jackie" to their longtime collaboration with Tirzah alongside a sprawling series of multimedia solo works, Levi has consistently found startling, striking inroads into the gray area between the rigorous avant garde, so-called indie music and leftfield electronica. Last year saw the release of "slob air," a resplendent, unfurling dose of sensuality on Hyderdub. Following a performance of their original compositions by Sinfonietta Cracovia at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Levi steps into the booth.
LCY’s taut re-interpretation of drum n bass, dubstep and hardcore has resulted in some of the most thrilling modern dance music of the last few years. The UK artist, also the label boss behind SZNS7N, taps Bristol’s storied legacy of low end pressure and seething dread and reinvigorates it with a feverish, modern approach. Atlanta’s Leonce is a modern master of cracking house percussion. A true DJ’s DJ and a producer who is unafraid of restraint and understatement, Leonce finds power in a swaggering minimalism. Following their standout set at Unsound’s Krakow edition, Cry - the duo of Kilbourne and Dripping co-founder Relaxer - returns for a live set. Drawing on their shared histories in punk circles, Cry fuses the focused rigor of their electronic works with a destructive, house show energy.
Keioui Keijaun Thomas performs early in the night. A multidisciplinary artist whose performance works have bridged the art world and the rave underground, Thomas’ performance and installation works embody both a visceral physicality and deep poignancy. Opening the night is a unique pre-prepared installation created especially for the Nowadays soundsystem. featuring Jim O'Rourke and Eiko Ishibashi reworking the compositions of Polish composer and electronic music pioneer Włodzimierz Kotoński.
