After two albums acclaimed by audiences and critics alike (best-selling SNEP Jazz/World album in France, Nomination for Josephine Award, sold out gigs, Billboard on Times Square for her ambassador and curator role of Spotify’s Equal playlist), Gabi Hartmann is back with an expanded version of her magnificent second album, La femme aux yeux de sel.
Gabi Hartmann is a singular artist who blends jazz, soul, and world music, singing in multiple languages while defying categorization. She has crafted her own distinctive style, marked by an ambiguous yet captivating emotional depth; a warm, clear voice that is simultaneously soft, melancholic, and soothing. She belongs to a new generation of musicians who move beyond rigid musical genres, constantly seeking new fusions and artistic expression shaped by their unique sensibilities.
Her self-titled debut album, released in 2023 under Sony Masterworks, has garnered
over 20 million streams worldwide. It earned her the New International Artist award in
Japan (Gold Disk Award) and received critical acclaim in both French and Canadian
press. She has performed at prestigious festivals such as Les Francofolies de la Rochelle, Nice Jazz Festival, Marciac, Montreal Jazz Festival, and Jazz à Vienne. She also performed for two consecutive years at the Blue Note Tokyo, toured Brazil, and completed two consecutive tours in Canada, where she built a large and loyal Quebecois audience. Gabi has also collaborated with international musicians, including Julian Lage and Jesse Harris.
Born in Paris in 1991, Gabi Hartmann is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer.
Raised in a musically inclined family, her parents being doctors, with her mother
engaged in humanitarian work, she grew up in an environment open to the world. She began studying classical piano at the age of eight, later developing a passion for soul and jazz voices through artists like Nina Simone, Otis Redding, and Billie Holiday. At 16, she started writing her first songs with her high school friends. Her academic journey took her through political science, philosophy, and ethnomusicology, leading her to live in Rio de Janeiro for two years, where she fell in love with the voices of João Gilberto, Caetano Veloso, and Gal Costa. She then pursued studies in London and spent shorter periods in South Africa, Portugal, and Guinea.
At 24, she returned to Paris to fully dedicate herself to music, studying jazz at the conservatory. During this period, she met songwriter and producer Jesse Harris (known for his work with Norah Jones, Melody Gardot, and Madeleine Peyroux)
