FETISH ATTIRE MANDATORY
The collaboration between Pornceptual and BASEMENT has been one of the key relationships in the club’s recent years. The infamous Berlin queer collective represents the vanguard of erotic exploration and raving. They are an undeniable bastion of queer expression and an inspiration.
LOLSNAKE headlines their first NY edition of Pornceptual. The Iraqi-American DJ is one of the founders of Weeeirdos, a uniquely special jewel in the Berlin nightlife calendar. Crafting a devious sound with unrelenting momentum, LOLSNAKE drives their point home with a headbanging intensity that can just as easily swerve into the ethereal and exploratory. It’s a perfect encapsulation of her party’s ethos of “fun and freedom.” Spikey Lee makes his debut at BASEMENT. A denizen of the German queer techno underground, Spikey Lee is a regular at Pornceptual’s German editions as well as spiritually aligned events like Gegen, Hamburg’s Kinky Sundays and more. Rooted in the harder edged sounds, Spikey Lee bites into a mouthful of manic fun at the bleeding edge of techno. BASEMENT resident Lydo joins the collective. Representing the fertile overlap between the febrile and the tactile, Lydo’s constantly-evolving craft has taken them from the anthemic to the cool and cerebral. And it always hits.
Pornceptual resident Curses returns. Drawing heavily on the gothic menace of EBM, Curses brings a true rock star energy to his performances. Last year’s “Another Heaven” swoons with all the dark romance the ‘80s has to offer, with his seductive baritone right at the center. His DJ sets perfectly translate this energy into a fever dream of satin, leather and penetrating stolen glances. Makadsi pushes the tempos higher for a true euphoric sugar rush. An essential pillar of the NY queer underground, Makadsi’s party series Function has become a key feature of the city’s musical calendar. DJ Holographic unfortunately can no longer make it and Manu Miran will be stepping in. The Venezuelan-born, NY based powerhouse invokes a world punky, sweat-drenched catharsis. Moving between full on mania and passages of eerie, evocative psychedelia, Miran stretches the language of dance music with joyous fluidity.
