Founded in 1986, the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir (OIGC) inspires joy and unity through the power of Black gospel and spiritual music. Under the leadership of Emmy-winning director Terrance Kelly, this “treasured Bay Area institution” brings together over 300 singers of diverse faiths, races, and cultures who share one uplifting message: inclusion and belonging through song.
Performing 25–30 times a year, the Choir has lit up stages from the Paramount Theatre to San Quentin Prison and toured the world. Their passionate harmonies have graced Grammy-winning albums with artists like Linda Ronstadt, MC Hammer, and Tramaine Hawkins, and shared the stage with legends including Jennifer Holliday, the Five Blind Boys of Alabama, Barry Manilow, and the Duke Ellington Orchestra.
Beyond the flagship choir, OIGC nurtures future generations through its Youth, Community, and Kids Choirs, providing mentorship, scholarships, and opportunities for Bay Area singers of all ages. Whether in a grand concert hall or a small community gathering, OIGC brings audiences to their feet, lifting hearts with a message of peace, love, joy, and hope.
