Mitch Elliott - A Spring-Flood Overflows the Still Horizon with Mara & Liam Keenan
Mitch Elliott
To celebrate the release of his new EP 'A Spring-Flood Overflows the Still Horizon,' Sydney-based musician and composer Mitch Elliott brings his immersive live show to the Vanguard — a rare preview before his December Asia tour through Japan and China. Described as “crushing, therapeutic music,” his sets are instinctive, unpredictable, and impossible to experience the same way twice. For this special performance, Mitch will be joined by Hinano Fujisaki and Jasper C-A to weave together music from the new EP and back catalogue, and extend into territories of improvisation and exploration.
Mara
Mara is a composer and curator based in Eora Sydney. She plays the viola and collaborates with her laptop to create live performances and recorded pieces for film, dance, and gallery spaces. Her work is led by the shifts of perspective and interaction of rhythms and beings within environments. Mara's most recent album At Every Corner "is a testament to her deep connection to time, place and community, as well as her skill in transforming everyday sounds into immersive auditory constructs."
In 2019 she graduated from RMIT with a Bachelor of Design (Digital Media) and went on to attend LungA School (Seyðisfjörður, IS) in 2020. Since then she has curated three major exhibitions: Cycles (2021, Sheffer); Gathering Geographies(2022, Darren Knight Gallery); and Building the Palace (2023, Blindside). Mara hosts The Bridge on fbi.radio in Eora Sydney and is a resident on Fade Radio with her program Absorbed Terrain. She currently works with the Powerhouse Museum as an audio producer and researcher.
Liam Keenan
Liam Keenan is a Gomeroi guitarist and curator based on Dharawal Country in Sydney. He is passionate about supporting the growth of Indigenous creative practices in and of regional Australia, as well as exploring the growing potential of music and new-media projects in museums. 2024 saw the release, via Room40, of Keenan’s collaborative album with American indie-rock experimentalist David Grubbs entitled Your Music Encountered in a Dream. A suite of three improvised guitar duets, layering effects and extended guitar techniques to explore the boundaries of harmony and dissonance. Having recently performed at Soft Centre 2025, Keenan is currently exploring the sonic depths of improvised acoustic guitar feedback in real time.
