This Sunday, 12th October, fabric hosts A Dance For Chris — a special fundraising event in support of fabric’s dear friend and long-time lighting technician, Chris Binks. Chris is a true fabric legend. He began working as a lighting engineer at the club from its opening in 1999, spending the next 18 years lighting every weekend. His iconic designs quickly earned him recognition beyond fabric, leading to roles as resident engineer for Enzo Siragusa’s FUSE party and Jamie Jones’ Paradise nights at DC10 in Ibiza. Over the past five years, Chris has been based in Ibiza, creating lighting designs for some of the island’s biggest and most celebrated shows. After suffering a major heart attack in Budapest and being without oxygen for 30 minutes, he sustained severe brain damage and fell into a coma. When doctors believed there was no hope and switched off his breathing support, Chris began to breathe on his own, and is now showing further signs of recovery — a powerful testament to his fighting spirit. Chris is finally being flown back to the UK on a specialist plane on Tuesday, 7th October, after spending the past two weeks in a Budapest hospital. Finding a UK hospital willing to admit him has been incredibly difficult. Tragically, his travel insurance had lapsed, leaving his immediate family facing an astronomical £40,000 medical bill in Budapest, in addition to £30,000 for the specialist transport to bring him home. In response, the club community has come together to help bring Chris home.
